You will be primarily responsible for providing this service for south and west Yorkshire but will be expected to contribute to the team's activities across the whole of the Area.
You will monitor and improve hydrological data quality using a range of approaches.

This includes both an annual program of data quality improvements as well as dealing with specific issues as they are identified.

You will also help to develop improved processes and innovative solutions that increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.

This will include the training and development of less experienced members of the team.

You'll be required to have an incident role, be available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident.

  • The hydrology team in Yorkshire is based in both Leeds and York. The team provides expert hydrological services and information to staff in all functions of the Environment Agency as well as to external customers. We work closely with colleagues in Hydrometry to improve our data quality and ensure a monitoring network that matches the needs of the organisation. You will be one of four hydrologists supported by a technical specialist and team leader.

  • You will be competent in the core hydrological skills of data analysis, recognising and reducing data uncertainty, and interpreting hydrological information. These skills will be supported by an understanding of catchment hydrological response across the full range of flows from droughts to floods. You will be a capable user of standard rainfall, soil moisture, river level and river flow methods and tools. You will be a confident communicator of hydrological information in presentations, reports, and briefings.
You will be expected to use your hydrometric knowledge to improve data quality. You will have experience in helping to manage effective monitoring networks. You will share your expertise with others including training new team members.
