Are you experienced in EBME (Electrical & Biomedical Engineering)


You should have experience of developing services and in setting up and maintaining a quality system for medical equipment management.

You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, commercial awareness, and a demonstrable ability to manageand motivate staff.

You should have a post graduate degree or equivalent knowledge and experience and will ideally be registered on the VRCT.


Responsibilities

  • Lead responsibility for the development and implementation of arrangements, policy and process development and quality systems relating to medical devices
  • Responsible for review and updating of existing procedures and developing a more robust system for all aspects of clinical equipment management
  • Responsible for line management and supervision of engineers and library technicians on site, setting objectives, appraisals, planning the work schedule and supporting/mentoring as appropriate with full support of Site Service Manager
  • Responsible for service delivery of prompt, high quality and professional engineering support to a broad range of medical equipment including a medical equipment library
  • Ensuring equipment management good practices are implemented and followed, including planned and reactive maintenance, asset lifecycle management and service contract monitoring
  • Supervise and take responsibility for investigation of incidents involving medical devices
  • Take the lead role in liaison with MHRA, CQC, NHS LA and other regulators and implement procedures to comply as required
  • Responsible for audit of clinical equipment, database content and keeping records up to date
  • Attend the Medical Devices Committees and other Trust meetings as required
  • Any other relevant duty that assists in the smooth operation and delivery of the service

Capability Profile

Technical

  • Extensive technical knowledge of medical devices as well as an understanding of how and why the devices can support healthcare delivery
  • Extensive knowledge of medical device standards safety regulations pertaining to their management and use
  • Ability to prioritise work of others to provide maximum delivery for our contractual commitments
  • Specialist knowledge of the physical principles of the technology used in medical equipment
  • Broad knowledge of current advances in technology and medicine and their likely impact on health care
  • Extensive knowledge of problem solving of medical device issues
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of all aspects of equipment management, including specification, procurement, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, and safety testing
  • Extensive experience in the use of a wide range of medical devices
  • Extensive experience in the investigation of adverse incidents related to medical equipment
  • Experience in the use of electrical and medical device test equipment

Clinical

  • Specialist level of understanding of patient and staff risks arising from the use of medical devices
  • Specialist level of knowledge of the reasons how and why a wide range of medical devices are used in health care delivery
  • Good knowledge of the organisation of health care
  • Good basic knowledge of physiology and medical terminology

Managerial

  • Prioritise and manage multiple tasks
  • Encourage/mentor and manage staff from junior administration to Senior Engineers and further develop a team approach
  • Thoroughness and attention to detail
  • Manage time effectively: meeting deadlines as an individual and as part of a team without compromising quality of work
  • Plan a range of work activities and alter priorities to cope with unforeseen circumstances
  • To exercise own initiative when dealing with issues within own specialist area of expertise
  • Deliver against performance indicators within a quality management system

Essential Qualifications

  • HND Electronics or equivalent
  • Membership of VRCT or IPEM (desirable)

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Clinical Equipment Management (>8 years)
  • Computer literate (Windows) to include Microsoft Office
  • Advanced Excel skills (desirable)
  • Excellent Influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong interpersonal & communication skills
  • Detailed uptodate knowledge of managing a wide range of medical equipment, including technical understanding
  • Able to work as part of a team or alone
  • Able to work to a deadline
  • Attention to detail
  • Understanding of clinical workflows
  • Worked with senior NHS clinical staff
  • Specification of medical equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of MHRA DB and associated documents
  • Exceptional levels of personal responsibility
  • Strong aptitude for dealing with ambiguity, maturity, resilience and the ability to stay calm under pressure
  • People management skills: persuasion, negotiation and appropriate authoritative influence
