Apointe are proud to be working with a fast growing boutique accounting and financial reporting consultancy based near Reading. They are on the hunt for an Assistant Manager - Accounting & Financial Reporting.


This role is ideal for someone who enjoys the technical challenge and variety of work associated with audit, but not the long hours and endless compliance, and wants to make a difference for their clients instead.


The team of specialists solve a wide range of complex problems for clients across financial reporting, technical accounting, modelling and financial perations.

Their client base ranges from fast growing private equity backed businesses through to listedcompanies and multinationals, and what all of their clients have in common is that they have a high degree of complexity in their financial world.

They work with clients in a collaborative manner and form an extension of their finance team at the times theyare under the most pressure.

About the role:


We are looking for technically minded, qualified accountant to join our clients growing team of talented financial reporting and accounting specialists.

In this role you will work on a wide variety of client projects, from share-based payment accountingand preparing listed company accounts, through to rebuilding client consolidations and acquisition accounting.


You will have the opportunity lead projects for their diverse and ever-growing client base, and support the team of trainee accountants in their continued development.

You will be working on a portfolio of clients with a diverse range of accounting and financial reporting requirements.


Key responsibilities:

  • Build sustainable working relationships with clients, understand their businesses and where our clients can support them in achieving their ambitions;
  • Support the senior engagement team in ensuring each client project has sufficient resources assigned and that the assigned team has the required experience and skills;
  • Reviewing work prepared by more junior members of the team and provide relevant feedback to identify future training needs;
  • Coach and delegate to others where appropriate, to provide learning opportunities and deliver client projects in an efficient manner;
  • Lead on the completion of client project work (including more complex and judgement areas), which includes the identification of issues, analysis of data, articulation of findings and the ability to draw informed conclusions;
  • Review and prepare financial statements under UK GAAP and IFRS, including supporting schedules such as consolidations and cashflow statements;
  • Maintain clear and regular communication with clients as one of their key contacts on each project;
  • Regularly update the senior engagement team of project status and schedule all required senior team reviews of client deliverables;
  • Support the senior engagement team in monitoring projects against expected deadlines and budgets, and proactively manage each project through to completion.

As part of your role in the wider business, you will:

  • Act as a role model for junior team members;
  • Support the overall technical training and personal development needs of the team by leading and/or participating in training sessions;
  • Be involved in any other internal projects and office issues as deemed appropriate.

Skills and attributes for success:


You can expect a lot of autonomy in this role, so we look for people who will take initiative and seek out opportunities to continuously improve the current ways of working, whilst also supporting their own professional development.


To qualify for this role you must have:

  • Be a fully qualified Accountant (ACA,ACCA,CIMA);
  • Strong practical experience with IFRS and UK GAAP reporting frameworks;
  • Welldeveloped organisational skills and experience of undertaking client projects from planning to completion;
  • A track record of establishing and maintaining meaningful working relationships, both with internal colleagues and external clients;
  • The ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment that promotes open communication;
  • Experience of coaching and delegating to more junior members of the team effectively;
  • Confidence in challenging yourself and others to complete high quality technical documentation;
  • Strong experience of Microsoft 365, in particular Excel;
  • Experience of writing technical papers and reports, and presenting their results to clients; and
  • The ability to prepare financial statements and supporting schedules such as group consolidations.

  • Base salary of circa £52,000
  • 27 days paid holiday plus bank holidays
  • Death in Service benefit four times salary
  • Employer pension contributions matching the employee contributions up to 6% of basic salary
