Youth Support Mentor required for specialist SEN school for pupils with Autism/ASC, complex needs, Severe Learning Disabilities (SLD), and Profound Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD), based in
Southwark, South East London. This is a
Full-Time (term time only) which is due to start ASAP. Rate is
£425 per week PAYE
We are working with a prestigious and friendly SEN school in Southwark. The school is looking to appoint a passionate individual to join the school as soon as possible. This position is perfect for someone who is aspiring to begin their career working in SEND.

This position is also perfect for someone with family members or friends who have additional needs and want to get into SEN settings for personal interests.

What are you expected to do?

  • Supporting pupils in classroom settings
  • Participating and engaging in school trips and other extracurricular activities
  • Assisting the class teacher with planning, preparing, and delivering learning activities, as well as monitoring and assessing children's achievement and progress
  • Working closely with the school's multidisciplinary team and parents/ family members/ carers
  • Actively getting involved in a wide range of activities, promoting the physical, cognitive, cultural, social, and emotional wellbeing of the pupils
  • Actively interacting with children through playbased and sensoryrelated activities
Some of our pupils have Speech and Language Communication Needs (SLCN), and some are non-verbal. Some pupils have complex medical needs and mobility issues. You may also experience physical behavioural challenges that are associated with the needs. Being able to use Makaton, Signalong or PECs is ideal. Personal Care (feeding and toileting) and hydrotherapy are required as this is a part of the job so a willingness to learn these skills is required


Requirements:


  • Anyone passionate about SEN and have a desire to support children and young people to achieve their goals
  • Anyone with personal interests in supporting children and young people with learning disabilities
  • A positive, proactive, and patient individual who has a cando attitude and is willing to learn
  • A team player and has great communication skills
  • Being able to build good working relationships with students and staff
