Personalised Healthcare Commissioning department, part of Midlands and Lancashire CSU are looking for a Safeguarding Practitioner to join our established Team.

This is a newly created post to add additional resource to our busy team

The post holder should come from a registered nursing or social work background with evidence of continued professional development.

You should have at least two years experience of working in a community setting, with extensive knowledge of MCA, DoLs and Safeguarding issues.


Ideally, you should have experience of attending court and writing witness statements with experience of liaising with Lawyers and Barristers.

You should have exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills, with the ability to disseminate information in a way which it is clearly understood by all parties.

You should be well versed in dealing with complex and sometimes contentious information.

You should have a good understanding of discussing sensitive and confidential issues in court and be aware of the expectations around the management of such information.

You should possess excellent written skills; experience of writing court reports would be advantageous.

The postholder will be expected to lead on Court of Protection (COP) cases across the responsible ICB areas, ensuring CSU compliance with The Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Court of Protection (CoP) for a specified cohort of service users.


You would be expected to support and advise colleagues in relation to MCA and DOLS, ensuring current case law and legislation is being embedded into clinical practice, promoting best practice and compliance with the law.


This role sits within the commissioning functions of IPA where health funding is in place, supporting patients in receipt of NHS funding including Continuing Healthcare (CHC), joint funding and complex care funding.

To support the service delivery of commissioned safeguarding services including support and advice to colleagues, and supporting a duty officer role.


The role will be responsive to ICB priorities and expectations whilst working on their behalf and representing them at Court where appropriate, with support from the Specialist Safeguarding Practitioners.


The post holder will be responsible for developing and setting best practice standards relating to the MCA, safeguarding and associated legislation.

Professional

  • To support in offering safeguarding support, advice and input to internal and external colleagues and support the safeguarding duty officer role
  • Provide advice and support to commissioning colleagues in relation to the MCA, safeguarding and CoP matters, this will include supporting in capacity assessments and best interest meetings.
  • To provide highly skilled communication to individuals from all care groups and ages with varying levels of communication needs (this includes facetoface, written and telephone contacts)
  • To be skilled in effectively communicating complex sensitive information
  • Providing some cover to the wider team in periods of unexpected colleague absence or service pressures
  • To maintain professional confidentiality in all matters relating to patient care seeking advice where required when sharing patient information
  • Maintain contemporaneous clinical records in line with NMC responsibilities and Standards for Record Keeping
  • To maintain up to date knowledge in regard to developments in legislation
