Do you have a passion for the Welsh language and for promoting equality of opportunity and outcome for disadvantaged groups such as the disabled, young people, LGBTQ+ and ethnic minorities?


An exciting opportunity has arisen for a committed and motivated individual to work as Powys Teaching Health Board's Welsh Language and Equality Officer as part of the small Equality and Welsh Language team.


Full training will be provided and first hand experience of working in these fields is not necessary (though would be an advantage); more important is enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and to teach, and an innovative and independent attitude.


The ability to speak Welsh to level 4 on the NHS Wales Welsh Language Skills Matrix is anessentialrequirement for this role.

This post is for a 0.8 FTE role however we are flexible in terms of work patterns (e.g. annualised hours, four-day working, school hours etc.), as well as work location. There will be the opportunity for remote working to form a significant part of this post, if desired.


The post holder will work autonomously providing advice, guidance and support to colleagues on matters involving Equality and the Welsh Language to ensure that the organisation implements the requirements of relevant legislation, standards and policies.


The post holder will support the Service Improvement Manager for Welsh Language and Equality to enhance fairness and equality across the organisation, develop and implement best practice initiatives to enhance a bilingual organisational culture and supporting clinical departments to deliver services bilingually.


Provide direct support to the Service Improvement Manager and senior executive team in the development and delivery of the Equality and Welsh language agenda and will deputise for the Service Improvement Manager.


The post holder will work closely with colleagues across the health board to support service improvement and ensure that the Welsh language is a key consideration in all Health Board business.

The post holder will manage a wide portfolio Welsh language and Equality projects and initiatives.
