The role:

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join us as a public health practitioner.

As part of the essential criteria, the post-holder will need to be qualified to degree level or have equivalent relevant experience, a Certificate in Health Promotion or equivalent in a relevant field and have practical knowledge of public health practice, health promotion models and/or community development approaches.

This is a full-time position, working 37 hours per week.

The post will focus on health protection, health care public health and ageing well. It will work alongside colleagues within the Knowledge and Intelligence team.


The post-holder will be responsible for engaging and sustaining links with a range of stakeholders and external partners in order to develop, deliver and evaluate sustainable public health programmes.


For this post, external working relationships arise from the breadth of health protection work, including work with: the Integrated Care System, NHS England, UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Infection Prevention and Control team, local and regional providers.


The role will involve partnership and public engagement, use of insight and intelligence on health, evaluation, innovation and research, commissioning and evidence-based rationale to improve public health delivery and outcomes.

The post-holder need to have experience working in a rapidly changing and challenging environment, using initiative and problem-solving skills to resolve issues.


About us:


You will be joining a well-respected team, working closely with the Director of Public Health, the Consultants and Principals in Public Health and Senior Public Health Specialists to advance the public health agenda and make a measurable difference to the health and wellbeing of our Warrington residents.

The post reports to the Head of Service or Consultant lead for the respective area of work.

Key relationships are with members of the public health team and other Council's Directorates and teams including Public Protection and Prevention (Environmental Health and Trading Standards), Adult Social Care, Education and Community Services, Growth, Environment and Transport, and Communications.

There may be relationships with external partners including colleagues within the Integrated Care Board, Public Health commissioned services and the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector.
