Description
To provide experienced and multi-skilled hands-on participation in the complete range of diagnostic cardiac investigations.

Undertakes a broad range of highly specialised cardiac investigations interprets results and provides factual reports that directly affect patient outcome.

The post holder should have expertise and interest in the area of cardiac rhythm management.

To help develop and support staff to work competently and to encourage staff development Assist in providing education to a multidisciplinary team through internal and external training and education.

To assist the lead physiologists in designated management aspects of the service.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS 1 Competent to perform the complete range of non-invasive & invasive diagnostic procedures with expert knowledge in the area of pacing and ICD or Electrophysiology 2 At least 3 years post basic qualification experience in technical cardiology.

3 HNC MPPM or BSc Clinical Physiology, or equivalent academic qualification/experience. 4 Should possess a post graduate vocational qualification.

E.g., IBHRE/BHRS 5 Proven communication skills. 6 Proven people management skills. CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES 1 Provides specialised technical expertise to pacing and ICD implant/follow up and implants.

2 Participates in technical support for implantable device cardioversion service 2 Performs highly specialised cardiac physiological testing on patients to aid clinical diagnosis without supervision.

3 Demonstrates empathy when dealing with patients in distressing conditions. 4 Independently interprets results and provides factual reports for highly specialised diagnostic cardiac investigations. 5 Performs necessary adjustments to devices which directly affect patients clinical outcomes. 6 Communicates effectively and advises clinical and non
- clinical staff regarding outcomes of diagnostic investigations.

7 Participates on a roster basis, including on-call, in all areas of technical cardiology. 8 Undertakes supervision & training for Clinical staff, Trainee Cardiac Physiologists and other allied health professionals.

9 Within their designated area assists the lead physiologist in implementing departmental strategies to ensure continuing development of patient-focused services in line with activity targets and the requirements of the Directorate.

10 Assists the lead physiologist in monitoring and maintaining quality of services within designated section.

11 Ensures that individual own level of practice is kept up to date. 12 Demonstrates active participation in clinical audit, and R&D activities. 13 Has awareness of future implications for development of current Cardiology services.

14 Works throughout a number of areas recognising all aspects of infection control measures needed for each specific clinical area.

15 Works within a multidiscipline environment abiding to strict regulations regarding radiation and protection from radiation. 16 Ensures all appropriate health and safety measures are taken when dealing with patients body fluids.

CLINICAL GOVERNANCE / MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES 1 Assists in formulating staff training & development strategies to promote retention & recruitment of high-quality Cardiac Physiologists.

2 Performs staff appraisals within a cascade system.

3 Ensures good communication within the department. 4 Actively promotes Cardiac diagnostics inside and outside the trust. 5 Ensures that clinical governance and clinical risk management are integrated into systems of patient care. 6 Helps to develop benchmarks for best practice alongside other hospitals.

7 Participate in service development/training initiatives with colleagues in referring district general hospitals. 8 Contributes and aids implementation of departmental policies & procedures. 9 Assists in planning & prioritising own duties as well as sharing responsibility for day-to-day organisation of service needs. 10 Involvement with organisation of weekly service roster for department.

11 Actively promotes self-development in specific areas of management in communication with the lead physiologist. 12 Ensure that confidentiality of patients records is strictly maintained and complies with the Data Protection Act. 13 Recognise peoples equality, diversity, and rights. 14 Feedback information on complaints / accidents / incidents to the lead physiologist.

15 Communicates with other departments involved in supporting the service. (i.e. domestics, porters, etc.).

HEALTH & SAFETY All staff will:

Have responsibility for the safe management of the department and ensure the safety of others affected by the departments activities.

Liaise with the Trust adviser and ensure that any advice is implemented. Ensure the Trust and departmental safety policies, arrangements, assessments etc. are maintained and made available for staff and that they are adhered to. Identify and assess risks to themselves and others.
