Description
Gloucester Rugby, formed in 1873, are a Premiership rugby team based at Kingsholm Stadium in the city of Gloucester.

One arm of the club is the Gloucester Rugby Foundation who are working towards a county free from inequality and the Participation Lead will be fundamental to achieving this mission through developing opportunities to ensure that
everyone has equal access to our sport.


You will oversee, deliver and develop our Project Rugby programme, which is designed to increase participation in the game by people from traditionally underrepresented groups, whilst also designing new interventions to support the growth of the game throughout Gloucestershire.


Focusing on encouraging participation in women and girls, black and minority ethnic groups (BAME), low socio-economic groups (LSEG) and people living with a disability or life altering disease this job will be impactful, purposeful and rewarding.


Using the passion and pride of Gloucester Rugby as our engagement tool, you will deliver support and opportunities that develop the skills, confidence and knowledge of the participants, so that they can achieve their goals.


You will be an experienced coach/project manager who is passionate about making a difference to people's lives through the power of sport.

But most importantly you will be a caring and kind individual who wants to genuinely enrich people's lives.


Key responsibilities

  • Design, plan, organise and deliver rugby sessions/interventions that introduce people, who are from typically underrepresented groups, to the sport
  • Deliver engaging, fun and highquality sporting sessions to a range of participants with varying abilities, needs and demands in a variety of different sporting environments. This may include SEN/AEN pupils in both mainstream and special schools, impairment specific sessions and mixed ability adult community groups
  • Work with community rugby clubs in Gloucestershire, to deliver transition sessions and pastoral care to new members
  • Support community rugby clubs in Gloucestershire to develop an inclusive and welcoming culture throughout the club. Whilst providing specialist help with any individual needs
  • Ensure monitoring and evaluation is completed, to ensure that the progress/impact of any project with the inclusion programme is reported to key funders and your line manager in a timely and effective manner
  • Work with the Gloucester Rugby Marketing and Communications team to ensure that the initiative is promoted adequately, and success stories are shared to promote brand awareness
  • To create and establish strong relationships with stakeholders including other organisations to create links that will give individuals the opportunity to progress within sport
  • Organise and deliver coach education sessions to train and develop a workforce for each delivery site to ensure the longevity and sustainability of the inclusion programme
  • To maintain activity resources and ensuring that kit is available and fit for purpose
  • This role will include school delivery, match day events, festivals and other programmes and will include working evenings and weekends
  • Applicants must hold a valid driving license and have access to a suitable vehicle.

Essential

  • RFU Level 2 Coaching Award
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Experience of working with young people
  • An understanding and passion for improving opportunities for disadvantaged people and underrepresented groups or individuals in our communities
  • An understanding of young people's risks, challenges and needs
  • Experience of working on rugby/sportbased projects
  • An understanding of safeguarding procedures
  • Experience of working with people with additional needs
  • A passion for sport and the community and making a difference
  • A friendly, positive 'can do' and courteous attitude
  • Time management skills to be able to plan and regulate workload including the ability to prioritise demands and thrive under pressure
  • Good judgement and knowing when to seek advice or support
  • Flexible, helpful and responsive
  • Strong interpersonal skills ability to build strong relationships with people at all levels both external and internal

Desirable

  • Other sports coaching qualifications
  • Experience of working with disaffected children and young people
  • Coaching Disabled People Award or additional qualifications related to disability sport
  • A proven track record of the successful implementation of disability specific sporting provision
  • Experience of sports development
Please note that you will need to possess or gain an enhanced DBS certificate for this role
