Due to room availability and to ensure a consistent service to our patients across the week, we are specifically looking for someone who can work on a Thursday and Friday.
We also provide a regular Saturday morning clinic; cover for which is shared among the HCAs at the practice.JOB DESCRIPTION
POST:
Phlebotomist
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Nurse Practitioner
HOURS:
16 hours per week (Thursday & Friday)
KEY PURPOSE:
To assist the GPs and practice nurse team in the service and
delivery of the care management of the practice population
Responsible to:
Nurse Practitioner, Practice Manager and, ultimately, the GP
Partners
Training Requirements:
Care Certificate (if not already completed)
Specific training and annual updates relevant to the role
Annual completion of mandatory online training modules
Job summary
The post holder works under indirect supervision of the practice nurse team leader and undertakes task and duties delegated by the practice nurse team leader or a suitably qualified regulated professional.
They will work collaboratively with the general practice team to meet the needs of patients, following policy and procedures while providing supervision to more junior staff.
Key responsibilities
Clinical skills - health and well-being
Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual.
To include but not exclusively:
- Phlebotomy
- pulse rate and rhythm (if competent)
- temperature (if competent)
- height and weight - body mass index (if competent)
- obtaining urine samples (if competent)
- waist measurement (if competent)
- ECG recording (if competent)
- Chaperoning duties
Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients' health and well-being
Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted
Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well
- being
Following appropriate training additional skills include:
Completion of NHS Health checks to eligible patients
Administering Influenza, pneumococcal and B12 injections under supervision
- Prepare and maintain environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions
- Give accurate and appropriate information to patients and groups within own competence
Job Types:
Part-time, Permanent
Salary:
£11.50-£11.90 per hour
Expected hours: 16 per week
