Axcis Education is currently seeking dedicated and compassionate SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistants to join our team and contribute to the positive development of our students.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting students with complex emotional, social, and mental health needs.


Your main responsibilities will include:

  • Building Strong Connections: Establishing positive relationships with students, understanding their unique backgrounds, and providing the necessary emotional support to help them engage in their learning.
  • Deescalation and Compassion: Demonstrating exceptional skills in deescalating challenging situations and using compassion and empathy to help students manage their emotions and behaviours effectively.
  • Collaborating with Teachers: Assisting teachers in the development and implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) to meet the specific needs of students and support their learning objectives.
  • Promoting Inclusivity: Creating an inclusive and nurturing educational environment where every student feels safe, valued, and respected.
  • Academic Support: Supporting students in their academic progress, offering assistance with coursework, assignments, and assessments as required.
  • Effective Communication: Maintaining open communication with parents, teachers, and other stakeholders to ensure a holistic approach to student development.

Requirements:


  • Proven experience in working with students with SEMH needs or complex backgrounds is essential.
  • Understanding of

Challenging Behaviour:
Demonstrated ability to manage challenging behaviours and maintain a calm and composed approach in difficult situations.

  • Genuine empathy and compassion for students, with a deep understanding of the impact of emotional and mental health challenges on their educational progress.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team with teachers, staff, and external agencies.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in response to the diverse needs of students and the educational setting.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, or related fields are desirable but not mandatory.
