JOB PURPOSE


The post holder is accountable to the Manager for assisting the cook to provide a catering service for the Day Care Centre.

The assistant cook must ensure the highest standards are maintained within the kitchen. It is essential that kitchen staff have a good rapport with service users.

Often the meals are one of the main highlights of the day and therefore the standard of catering needs to be of the highest quality.


MAIN DUTIES
1 Contribute to the menu planning along with the cook.

2 Assist in the preparation of meals and snacks in accordance with specified menus

3 Maintain a good knowledge of dietary and nutritional principles in catering for older people.


4 Ensure that the kitchen is kept to a high standard by overseeing washing dishes and cleaning of floors, crockery, utensils work surfaces.


  • To deputise in the absence of the cook.
6, To be in sole charge on a Sunday overseeing the menu for the Brunch Club.

Preparing and serving the food and working alongside volunteers.


JOB ACTIVITIES
1 Be aware of infection control policies and appropriate standards required as regards to a catering area.

2 Ensure that the appropriate clothing including headwear, is worn at all times in accordance with Mid-Lin guidelines.


  • Co-operate fully with the statutory inspections.
4 Be conversant with all policies at Mid-lin.

5 Maintain all records as required.


6 To undertake such other duties as may be determined from time to time within the general scope of the post.


7 To ensure that the individuality, confidentiality, privacy, choice, rights and personal dignity of service users are respected at all times.
