Service Care Solutions has an exciting opportunity for a Criminal Justice Practitioner to work a contract in West London.

Place of work

  • Newham probation office (34 days per week)
  • HMPYOI Feltham (12 days per week)


Hours of work: 35 hours per week, over 5 days, flexible working pattern as long as all hours are worked between 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday.


Pay scale:
£20 per hour

Responsibilities:


  • Co-ordinate and deliver Belong's RJ Service at the Transitions to Adulthood Hub in Newham, in a sustainable manner that is in line with Belong's aims and objectives and its policies and procedures.
  • Deliver RJ interventions as part of Belong's PLAN A project in Feltham, in a sustainable manner that is in line with Belong's aims and objectives and its policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that RJ interventions are delivered safely and in accordance with the Restorative Justice Council's Best Practice Guidance for Restorative Practice.
  • Build and maintain excellent working relationships with external staff members including senior probation and prison management, prison staff, probation practitioners, commissioners and funders.
  • Publicise the RJ work, its potential benefits and evidence base, to young people and young adults on probation or in prison, victims of offences, senior probation and prison management, prison staff, third sector staff, probation practitioners, commissioners and funders.
  • Attend and contribute positively to multi agency meetings, representing Belong in a positive manner that builds and enhances the charity's reputation. Work collaboratively with local police and victim liaison teams to access contact information for victims of young adults offences.
  • Analyse complex information in order to complete risk assessments and comment on the suitability of young adults and individuals harmed for participation in RJ.
  • Provide preparatory and follow up support to all parties who participate in restorative justice interventions and make referrals to other agencies, as appropriate.
  • Collect, collate and present programme data in monthly service monitoring reports.
  • Participate actively in line management meetings and, in between line management meetings, update management of progress and of any issues arising in order to receive advice and guidance.

Required Knowledge and Experience

  • Two years' experience of working within the criminal justice sector, preferably including work with probation
  • Experience of facilitating and co-facilitating restorative justice interventions. Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders relating to a given project.
  • Awareness of the issues that may be faced by young adults on probation.
  • Awareness of the issues that may be faced by victims of offences and by family members of young adults who have committed offences.
  • Thorough knowledge of individuals' emotional and mental health needs.
  • An understanding of the principles of confidentiality and of instances when this should be breached.
