We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic individual to join a well established Clinical Coding Department at Wrexham Maelor Hospital.

The post holder will be required to extract medical terms from clinical documents and translate to clinical codes for hospital activity at Wrexham Maelor Hospital

Trainee Clinical Coders will be considered if we are unable to fill the post with a Qualified Clinical Coder.

Trainee Clinical Coders will be placed on a Band 3 pay structure until they gain NCCQ status when they will move to a Band 4.

Main duties of the job

You will have good knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. A keen attention to detail is essential to this role.

You would be expected to keep updated of developments in clinical coding through internal training and specialty training courses, which could involve travelling.


In the instance of appointing a trainee we offer a comprehensive training package including Coding Standards Course and a internal trainee coder development course fully supported by experienced nominated mentors.

The post holder should hold the NCCQ and have experience of coding a wide range of specialties, have a flexible approach to work, be able to manage workload and work as part of a team to tight deadlines.

The post will require a highly motivated individual, an analytical thinker and posses excellent communication skills. They should also have the ability and confidence to suggest and implement ideas to improve departmental efficiency and performance.
