The District Nursing Service provides safe, personal and effective care to patients in their own homes across Burnley, Pendle, Rossendale, Hyndburn and Ribblesdale.

The service core hours are from 07:30- 22:00 worked on a rota basis including weekends and bank holidays with a dedicated Night Nursing team providing care overnight.


An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the Community Nursing team Registered Nursing Associate in the Burnley West District Nursing Team.

The successful applicant will form an essential part of the team, working under the direction of the Registered Nurse to provide responsive and timely care to patients.

You will be supported by a competency framework, Assistant Practitioner Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), receive a comprehensive induction to community working and your professional development will be reviewed annually.

Please note that whilst our staff are based with individual District Nursing teams, you will be required to work across the East Lancashire footprint to ensure safe staffing levels on occasions.

It is essential that you are a car driver and have access to a vehicle for work purposes with business insurance.


General duties includes:


  • Administration of injectable medicines including Insulin therapy, Vitamin B12 and soon to include low molecular weight heparin.
  • Risk assessment including MUST, Waterlow
  • Catheterisation, Male, female and suprapubic
  • Continence assessment
  • Wound care including Doppler reassessments
  • Palliative Care
  • Disposal of drugs within the home setting
  • Venepuncture
  • Routine clinical observations
  • Participation in team safety huddles and meetings
  • Contribution to audits
  • Opportunities for taking on Link Nurse/champion roles to support your team.
  • Mentorship and support for junior and undergraduate staff
  • IT systems and process including EMIS electronic patient record
