£24,795 per annum


The Peterborough School (TPS) is an Independent Day School delivering exceptional education and nurturing children from Nursery through to Sixth Form.

The School is set in beautiful and historic grounds with excellent facilities, in the heart of Peterborough, benefitting from both superb transport links and our own secure car park.


The Peterborough School is seeking to appoint a friendly, experienced individual to undertake a variety of maintenance duties in connection with the support and maintenance of the School and grounds, along with occasional minibus driving.

Normal working hours are 11 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.

However, there will be odd occasions that you will be expected to work until 10 pm in support of School events.

On these occasions, you will start work at 1 pm. This is a full-time role,
not term-time only.

There is a requirement to work for two Saturdays a year, which will attract additional pay. There will be other opportunities to work overtime, which will also attract extra payment.

All uniform and protective clothing will be provided. There is free on-site secure parking.

There is a generous pension scheme, and all staff are able to join a subsidised private health scheme at reduced cost.

During term time, refreshments and lunch is available free of charge.

Summary of the role_


The post holder will be responsible to the Estates Manager for conducting general maintenance and house-keeping tasks at the School, Nursery and wider estate.

They will be required to drive the School minibuses on occasion, as directed by the Estates Manager.

They will be responsible for maintaining the security of the School out of hours, to the point they leave each evening.

This will include ensuring the School and Nursey are secure.

They will be required to carry out routine maintenance tasks in the early evening, as directed by the Estates Manager.


They will ensure that the requirements for any out of hours lettings are met and that those lettings have left the site at the agreed time.


The post holder will be required to provide out of hours duty cover as part of the Estates Team Duty Roster, as directed by the estates Manager.

They will attend all INSET days and School Open Days. They will undertake all mandated training.

The post holder will have practical maintenance skills and work well within a team.

They will have a clean driving licence with D1, or be willing to undertake D1 driver training to get that licence.

They will be physically fit and able to work under their own initiative. They will be honest and trustworthy. They will be computer literate and familiar with Microsoft Office.

The post holder will comply with the School's Code of Conduct.

Main Duties and Responsibilities_

  • Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
  • Maintenance:_
  • To carry out practical basic maintenance tasks.
  • To support the logistics of the School and Nursery by ensuring rooms are set up as required and that packages and equipment are taken to where it needs to be.
  • To carry out general housekeeping duties, including, but not exclusively, sweeping, clearing leaves, cleaning playgrounds, picking up litter and gritting surfaces.
  • Security:_
  • To carry out routine security checks and lock ups, as required.
  • Driving:_
  • They are to drive the School minibus when required to.
  • They are to drive safely and considerately.
  • They are to abide with all relevant traffic regulations and drive appropriately to the weather conditions.
  • They are never to speed and are only to overtake other road users in exceptional circumstances and if safe to do so.
  • Lettings
:_

  • To set up for lettings at the School.
  • Additional Duties:_
  • To take their turn on the out of hours duty roster, as directed by the Estates Manager.
  • During the period of their duty, they are to be contactable and remain in the local area.
  • In the event of a call out they are to come to the School as quickly as possible, whilst ensuring their own safety.
  • They are to manage the nature and cause of the call out, and call in additional support, as the situation necessitates.
  • General:_
  • To ensure that all Health and Safety issues relating to all aspects of this role are observed.
