Wind Tunnel Engineering Technician
Are you a skilled and experienced Engineering Technician with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering?

Do you have a passion for "Big Engineering", aeroplanes and all things aerospace?

Do you have knowledge or an appreciation of other engineering systems such as instrumentation, control systems, hydraulics or pneumatics?

You will be working at a world leading aerospace and aerodynamics research establishment which works with such clients as Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, BAE Systems, Saab and Bombardier to mention but a few.

Research for Concorde was done at this establishment.

As an Engineering Technician you will be working as part of a highly skilled and enthusiastic team operating, servicing, maintaining, calibrating and upgrading the onsite transonic wind tunnel amongst other specialist facilities.

You will not only assistingin the day to day testing that the facility is used for and managing the test models and documentation but there is also a chance to use your expertise to influence how the various facilities could be developed and improved.

Your main duties and responsibilities as an Wind Tunnel Engineering Technician will be:
Operating the main Transonic Wind Tunnel.

Operating complementary test facilities.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team environment in the preparation and assembly of models and rigs for testing, giving consideration to schedule and costs;
Maintenance, calibration and quality control of specialist rigs, facilities and associated equipment;
Preparation and installation of specialist optical measurement systems in test facilities;
Making recommendations for design, process or hardware modifications to support continuous improvement.

Operation and development of aerodynamic test facilities, rigs and equipment, including the operation of control systems directly associated with the facilities and specialist rigs;
Record maintenance, model storage, organization of equipment, rig maintenance, etc.;
Undertaking training, where necessary, in support of the above duties, to ensure that safe working practices are observed (e.g. forklift, facility operation, manual handling, confined spaces, etc.).

Full training will be given in all of the specialist activities associated with this position.
Time-served Mechanical or similar discipline Technician, Apprenticeship trained and/or with significant demonstrated experience.

HNC / HND Mechanical Engineering or similar qualified.

Have experience working in research & development or in a commercial environment.

Team player, capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced employees as well as supervision of apprentices as required.

Flexible and positive attitude, willing to go that extra mile to meet deadlines/schedules.

Attention to detail in terms of quality of work.

Drive and commitment to improve own skills and be receptive to new ideas and ways of working.

Self-motivated with good communication and can-do attitude to overcome issues that arise
