The Post
Grade 7, Teaching and Scholarship
To support the MSc Applied Professional Studies in Adult Services, Support and Protection. To contribute to other UG and PG modules on the Social Work qualifying programmes. To support new Faculty Masters provision.

Grade 8, Teaching and Research
To coordinate modules and teach on the MSc Applied Professional Studies in: Child Wellbeing and Protection. To coordinate modules and teach on other Social Work Qualifying Programmes at undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG). To contribute to new Faculty Masters provision.


Description of Duties
Grade 7, Teaching and Scholarship

  • Contribute to the enhancement of the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE sector
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of postqualifying provision for the Scottish social services and allied health professional workforce. This post will have a particular focus, but not exclusive, on Adult Services, Support and Protection
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of effective approaches to teaching and learning support as key contributions to high quality student learning
  • Contribute to enhancement of the student experience and employability
  • Engage in individual and collaborative pedagogical and scholarly activity, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, and disseminate results through regular publication in a manner appropriate to the work
  • Independently, and in collaboration with colleagues, contribute to bids for external funding/income for scholarship activities
  • Participate in the Faculty's international engagement activities as required e.g., delivering teaching, contributing to joint programmes and recruitment of students
  • Participate in, and develop, networks and collaborations both internally and externally to the Division/Faculty/University
  • Participate in the administrative processes of the Division/Faculty/University including committee membership, quality assurance procedures and recruitment and admission of students
  • Evaluate own practice and approaches to teaching, continue to maintain professional practice links and undertake continuous professional development appropriate to the role
  • Any other duties, commensurate with the grade of the post
Grade 8, Teaching and Research

  • Engage in individual and collaborative research activity, which aligns to the strategic direction of the University, establish a distinctive programme of research and disseminate results through regular publication in high impact journals, books and conference proceedings
  • Identify appropriate sources of funding, prepare research proposals for funding bodies and manage grants awarded
  • Cosupervise or mentor research students and staff as required, providing direction, support and guidance
  • Design, teach and assess a range of teaching and learning, supervision and assessment activities across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including online/digital programmes where required
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of postqualifying provision for the Scottishsocial services and allied professional workforce, particularly those in childwellbeing and protection roles
  • Participate in the Faculty's international engagement activities as required e.g deliveringteaching, contributing to joint programmes and recruitment ofstudents
  • Participate in, and develop, networks and collaborations both internally and externally to the Division/Faculty/University

Qualifications

  • Social work or allied health qualified professionals
  • Professional practice experience with adult care services, or teaching experience and/or a PhD in a relevant discipline

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience or knowledge to design, deliver, assess and evaluate modulesin social work educationor continuing professional development
  • Demonstrate an understanding of or provide evidence of developing effective approaches to adult teaching and learning, student support and guidance
  • Experience or knowledge of approaches to enhance the student experience particularly for parttime and mature students
  • Knowledge of contemporary adult support and protection and selfdirected support services
  • Clear plans for future scholarship activities e.g. in relation to Adult
