Description
Fortune is seeking a Lists Editor for Europe, based in London.

Fortune lists provide readers with information and insight. They recognize and hold companies and their leadership accountable to shareholders, employees and other stakeholders.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a founding member of the European team responsible for expanding the reach of Fortune's biggest franchise lists, such as the Fortune 500, Change the World, and Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For, and to develop new lists under the Fortune Brand.

As a Lists Editor, you will play an integral role in publishing Fortune lists.

You will be responsible for gathering, verifying, inputting and analyzing data, as well as ensuring that colleagues—such as writers, editors, the art and photo teams, social media, video, and newsletter producers, and business-side colleagues—have the necessary information and insights to create and shape content and promotion around those lists.

Your primary job will be to adapt Fortune's existing lists to Europe and develop new lists in collaboration with the NY and Asia list editors, worldwide editorial teams and, in some cases, third-party partners.

From ideation to research, data collection, input, and analysis through the list's launch, you will be involved in every step of the process.

This includes collecting and checking company data and metrics, including public and private companies that report some or all of their data.

You may also contribute to creating list blurbs. You should be able to read and understand financial statements in company annual/interim reports and filings. The role will require both independent work and collaboration with Fortune's editorial teams worldwide.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Fortune list and rankings ecosystem, its topics, people, and companies.
  • Collaborate with Fortune editors to gather, verify, and organize company data and metrics for Fortunefranchise lists.
  • Ideate around which lists to adapt to Europe and when to develop new lists.
  • Read, analyze, and input financial data from company annual reports and filings. Understand company financial ratios, markets, and world currencies.
  • Coordinate with editors, the art and photo departments, and the distribution team to ensure timely gathering and distribution of data to meet editorial deadlines.
  • Review lists, related stories, and other relevant content for accuracy.
  • Manage, maintain, and update Fortune databases and other tools used to generate tables, charts, and additional information for stories and special issues.
  • Work with external financial and economic reporting service vendors and partners to gather data and generate tables, charts, and other key data for franchise features.
  • Possess expertlevel proficiency in Excel and external database use (e.g., S&P Capital IQ Pro).

You are:

  • Comfortable with financial data and other performance metrics: Familiar with the details of corporate reporting, and able to translate that information into terms that people who aren't familiar can understand

Proven:
Able to demonstrate strong attention to accuracy and detail.

  • Flexible: Able to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
  • Nimble: Organized and able to juggle multiple tasks, as well as able to pivot amid breaking news.
  • Experienced: Expert with Bloomberg Terminal, Excel, WordPress, and S&P Global (Capital IQ database).

Must be based in London and will work three days per week in the office, with days in the office evolving as required.

If you are a detail-oriented professional with a strong news sense and an affinity for finding and understanding company and financial data, this role offers an exciting opportunity to shape impactful editorial coverage at Fortune.

To apply, please submit a CV and answers to the following questions in a single, three-page PDF:

  • Describe an experience you've had working with a team on a complex, data-driven project. Tell us about that experience and how you not only managed your own work, but how you contributed to the overall project in ways that helped other team members.
  • Describe your career goals and how this role aligns. Are you a career list editor and/or journalist? What excites you about this role?
  • Which Fortune lists would you adapt to Europe as stand-alone lists? Which Fortune lists would you increase European participation in? Which new lists would you develop for Europe with a global appeal? Why?
