Permanent Job - Quality Team Leader - FMCG Production

We are a business that are leading the way in the processing and bottling of alcoholic beverages for many international and leading brands from our Broxburn based site and with this has come the opportunity to recruit additional experienced quality staff to join us on our journey.

The role;

Based in our Broxburn location you will be a strong communicator, influencer, mentor, Leader responsible for ensuring a safe, quality conscious, cost effective, efficient and continually improving environment is created and maintained.


You will be responsible to ensure that quality coaching, training and development of team members is in place to achieve "Best in Class" organisational performance.

Main responsibilities and accountabilities for the Quality Team Leader will be but not exhaustive to:

  • Health, Safety and legislation compliance within the site.
  • Promote safe working as our highest priority and monitor for compliance against site safety standards.
  • Work place risks are to be managed through risk assessments and process controls.
  • Complete accident and incident reports within your area of responsibility as required.
  • Product quality.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure quality procedures are robustly implemented the procedures are adhered to.
  • Coordinate the Complaints and NCRs systems, acting as primary customer contact.
  • Oversee investigations to determine root cause and ensure adequate corrective / preventive actions in response to complaints and quality investigations.
  • Oversee Quality lab activities, ensuring robust test records are maintained,
  • Ensure a current, qualified sensory panel is maintained.
  • Manage supplier performance through testing / assessment of packaging and reporting of issues through supplier NCRs.
  • Oversee quarantined stock (cased and dry goods) to ensure stock is dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Lead the site teams in all activities relating to food safety, legality and quality by ensuring compliance against HACCP, CCP, GMP. PPE, record keeping and training through as required.
  • Provide Technical and Quality advice to the business as needed, maintaining knowledge of current legislation and available technology.
  • Manage and deliver agreed performance targets.
  • Management of Quality Laboratory activities in line with the production plan.
  • Ensure line quality manpower planning results in fully resourced shifts.
  • Lead the Quality team in driving performance improvements on site.
  • Set KPIs to monitor the performance of the Quality Lab function, reporting to key stakeholders.
  • Communicate performance measures to the respective teams on an ongoing basis.
  • Play an active role in cross functional projects aimed at improving key operations KPI's on site.
  • New Product Development.
  • Manage New Product Development projects, on time and to budget, organising BBL resource to meet customer needs.
  • Complete costings for proposed
  • Ensure specifications are available for new products introduced to BBL.
  • Oversee line trials / packaging trials as needed and directed by BBL customers.
  • Implement robust NPD documentation to facilitate the transition from customer to line.
  • Facilitate NPD meetings, calling on support and resource from across the business to enable effective delivery of NPD projects.
  • Facilitate customer visits to site, including audits to support NPD projects.
  • Team leadership and supervision.
  • The Quality Team Leader will lead and develop their team through the appropriate use of coaching, mentoring and management styles.
  • Full understanding of operational issues and ongoing works to drive improvements
  • Performance feedback and development for all team members is expected through appraisal.
  • Responsible for setting (and monitoring for) discipline within their team.
  • Address team and individual performance when either fall short of requirement.
  • Deputise for the Quality Manager as required.
  • Based on business requirements a flexible approach is expected in order to support holiday cover, possible weekend shifts/overtime as required in order to meet business needs.
  • Continuous improvement
  • Lead CI projects across the business in response to needs identified from trend data.
  • Work with key stakeholders to deliver CI solutions.
  • Collate, review and analyse data to support / identify new CI projects for ongoing performance improvement across the site.
  • Work with customers and suppliers to deliver agreed CI plans to improve performance both at BBL and in the dry goods delivered to site.
