Description

Primary role purpose:
Support review of type approval test results, mostly focused on the Physical Layer and RF areas but also on the higher layer
Support the develop, maintenance of the UT RF test requirements,
Participate in verification/approval testing to ensure compliance to System Requirements (e.g. BGAN System Definition Manual (SDM)).

Close collaboration with equipment manufacturers and other individuals and groups within Inmarsat in the development of new terminals and services, and support of exiting services.

Carry out testing on the BGAN network simulator with new type of terminals and develop expertise in the RF element of the simulator.

Develop expertise in physical layer design and potentially protocol layers of the BGAN system design in order to:

Participate and support the Systems Architecture & Design team in CTO in the ongoing maintenance process for the BGAN System Definition Manual (SDM), including the preparation of written responses to formal queries submitted by the RAN and UE manufacturers.

Support continuing development to the BGAN SDM, including the development of Change Proposals to support new services such as Omni and Carrier Aggregation terminal.


Qualifications:


Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering or equivalent.
Good knowledge of modulation (O-QPSK, QAM) and coding (turbo codes).
Good knowledge of mobile satellite signal propagation models, in Land (fixed and mobile), maritime and aeronautical environments
Good knowledge of software development and engineering techniques
Good knowledge and experience of software programming and use of simulation tools (e.g. MatLab) for system development and analysis.
Good knowledge of RF measurements and testing methods.


Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Working knowledge of link budget, receiver and fading simulations
Inmarsat and other satellite communications systems.
Programming ability (C++)
Data communications protocols (TCP/IP, IPSec, PPP).
Terrestrial Mobile communication (UMTS, LTE and 5G).
Inmarsat and other satellite communications systems.
Signalling in fixed and mobile networks (UMTS, LTE and 5G).
Network protocol analyser tools (e.g. Wireshark).
Knowledge of DSP implementation and architecture.
Good knowledge of satellite communications systems.
Knowledge of aeronautical communication systems performance and environmental requirements.
