Are you looking for a really rewarding role supporting a child with complex needs? Our 6-year-old client enjoys sensory play and playing on his tablet, he is looking for an experienced Support Worker to help him live life to the fullest.

If this sounds like you, please get in touch, we'd love to hear from you.

The Role/Client:

  • C has complex needs including an acquired brain injury, a genetic disorder, ASD, developmental impairment, cognitive delay and language/sensory issues. C is not able to communicate his basic needs so is looking for an experienced Support Worker with a positive outlook on life who will support him with all activities of his daily living, help to regulate his emotions and work with him on a 1:1 basis with assistance available when required.
  • C can walk independently but tires easily so use a wheelchair for longer distances. He is considered nonverbal but does use PECS although not consistently. The role will involve supporting C with his personal care, washing and dressing, facilitating play and assisting in his rehabilitation support including aquatic therapy as directed by the MDT to progress his longerterm goals. You may have to assist in the preparation of meals for C and assist with feeding.
  • When engaged in activities he wants to do, C is happy, loving and kind but can also display challenging behaviours at times which are managed by the use of distraction techniques. Full training in all aspects of our client's care will be given and you will be fully supported by his Case Manager.
  • The role will also require the Support Worker to accompany/partake in C's aquatic therapy sessions where you will liaise with his therapists.

About You:

  • You will have a minimum of 1 year's complex care experience working with children with complex needs which you may have gained in a Carer or Support Worker role or as a Teaching or Learning Support Assistant in a school or through personal experience.
  • Due to C sometimes becoming physically and verbally challenging when he is distressed, you will need to be physically fit and experienced in dealing with this challenging behaviour and in using distraction techniques. You will support him to regulate his emotions by verbal reassurance and giving him the necessary time and space he needs to become calm.
  • You will provide a supportive, engaging and childcentred approach to our client by following his care plan and helping him achieve his developmental and rehabilitation goals. It is for this reason that you will need to have experience working with children with ASD and similar needs.
  • You will be a swimmer as you will accompany C to his aquatic therapy sessions, getting into the pool with him and his physiotherapist.
  • You will be kind, positive, reliable, and able to build a relationship of trust with our client and family.
