Job description
We are actively looking for diligent and meticulous Safety Managers to join our experienced Land division here at DE&S. Do you have an engineering background with a focus on safety? Are you experienced in Systems Safety Management? If so, we want to hearfrom you

You should be process driven and have excellent attention to detail.

You will be assessing and influencing the safety decisions across various platforms as well as generating documentation that supports their effective use on the front line.

The role alsoallows you to get your hands on some of the most pioneering Land platforms the UK has to offer in this multifaceted position.

In our Land Engineering Division, we need Safety Managers involved in the delivery and support within our operations teams across the following areas:

  • Land Equipment Operating Centre (LEOC)
  • Armoured fighting vehicles, self-propelled howitzers, small calibre pistols, through to military "laser quest" systems.
  • Weapons Operating Centre (WOC)
  • Munitions and weapon systems ranging from small calibre bombs and bullets through to strategic missile systems.
We operate hybrid working and your duty station can be aligned at any of the following locations, though please note, most Land Equipment roles are Bristol based:

  • MOD Abbey Wood, Filton, Bristol BS34 8JH
  • Defence Munitions Beith, Ayrshire KA15 1JT
  • MOD Boscombe Down, Salisbury, Wiltshire, SP4 0JH

About the role
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work with colleagues at all levels to ensure compliance with relevant UK and EU legislation and regulations, DE&S Policy and MOD regulations
  • Lead production and contribute to Safety Management Plans
  • Lead the development and management of Safety Cases at project level
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of policy and process to satisfy the DE&S corporate standards for Acquisition Safety Management
  • Leading a diverse grouping of stakeholders at different levels/grades, with possible line management responsibilities

Person specification

  • Hold a HNC (i.e., Level 4 or higher) qualification in a relevant safety, engineering, or science field, or have the equivalent relevant experience
  • Experience of providing technical advice and the delivery of safe products or services, in an engineering environment
  • Experience in the use of Safety Management Tools and Processes
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:

  • Adoption of safety risk management (Practitioner)
  • Compliance with policy (Practitioner)
  • Leadership
  • Changing and improving
