This is a new and exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to join the Gwent Health Protection Team.

As a Health Protection Support Practitioner, the post holder will be an integral part of the team, responding to a range of health protection issues as well as supporting the Health Board to plan and be prepared for any future incidents that pose a threat to public health.


Key working relationships that the post holder will be expected to establish and maintain, both internally and externally of ABUHB, include but is not exhaustive of, fellow Health Protection Team members, other ABUHB departments, Public Health Wales, other Health Board's, Local Authorities and Social Care Providers.


The post holder must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and have the ability to be flexible to respond to an unpredictable work pattern including unsociable hours and weekends.


The post holder will be an integral part of Gwent Health Protection Service, contributing and responding to a range of health protection issues.

This includes supporting the Health Board to be prepared for any future public health incidents as well as supporting the mobilisation of a local response, in line with local and national guidance, to infectious diseases.

This includes, contributing to the identification, prevention, control and management of infectious and non-infectious threats to the population of Gwent.

As part of a local response, the post holder will be required to liaise with other health professionals that are internal and external to the Health Protection Service, as well as members of the public on relevant matters.

The post holder will also be required to support the sharing of relevant data and information to establish situational awareness, mobilisation of vaccinations, sampling and testing, contact tracing and engagement with relevant agencies such as safeguarding in the event of an outbreak or incident.


The Health Protection Support Practitioner will work in collaboration with nurses, practitioners, consultant, administrative staff, and analyst colleagues, in ensuring that the service provided is always of the highest quality, and characterised by effectiveness and efficiency.

They will be expected to work with other public health and Health Board teams/programmes as required and agreed with their line manager.
