With increased government and public interest in the environment, Devon, Cornwall and Isles of Scilly face more scrutiny on our ability to effectively regulate permit holders than ever before.
In line with our Area local ambition to improve water quality, influence improved water company performance and regulate permitted sites, we are looking for a Senior Environment Officer (SEO) who will technically lead our land and water staff as well as link in with the national ambition for water quality.

- Lead our compliance activities across sectors including the Water Industry, mines and quarries, and to ensure we use resources
- Support, mentor and develop our staff via training for Environment Officers.
- Manage relationships with external organisations at a senior level
- Use technical knowledge and experience to deal with complex problems, working with others including national networks to find
- Be a part of the Water Land and Biodiversity (WLB) leadership community to plan work programmes and agree priority setting.
- Collate and contribute to our KPI data for Water Quality regulation work.

As part of your induction, you will be provided with the equipment required for your role.The team
You will join one of our three Land and Water Teams (depending on location), as with the other Senior Environment Officers in Water Land and Biodiversity (WLB) you will lead on your area of expertise across the whole of Devon, Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Experience/skills required
Essential:
- Experience in undertaking audit and compliance activities
- Understanding of water quality and the impact of pollutants on the water environment
- Ability to understand complex data and use this to establish convincing arguments to achieve outcomes
- Consider new efficient ways of working
- Effectively communicate
- Work collaboratively internally and externally
- Build and maintain productive relations with other teams with the aim of improving water quality
Desirable:
- Knowledge and experience of regulating permits
- Knowledge of the water industry
- Knowledge of the mines and quarries sector
- Knowledge of the local geography and issues of high public interest within Devon & Cornwall
