Our client is looking for an experienced Communications Officer.

To assist the Corporate Housing Communications Manager to ensure effective communication with residents and staff within the department. It includes coordinating numerous internal and external publications for a variety of audiences.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • Draft, edit and proof public information including letters, newsletters, leaflets, web text, and posters in conjunction with the relevant service area and service users, where appropriate.
  • Act as a guardian of the Council's corporate identity, promoting it and ensuring all housing communications adhere to the Council's standards.
  • Source stories for, write, edit and manage production of Housing Matters, the housing department's primary outbound comms production.
  • Brief designers and printers and manage the production process.
  • Liaise with external agencies including distribution companies and translation agencies where needed.
  • Provide operational staff and managers with clear guidance on the design, production and distribution of public information they seek to produce.
  • Work closely with the central communications team, senior officers, managers and staff as well as partner agencies to ensure effective communications exist throughout the organisation and beyond, including gathering information from across the business which can be used in responses to media and briefing documents for Councillors.
  • Answer internal queries in relation to communications and public information and utilise internal communication channels to keep staff up to date and informed.
  • Create and implement engaging multimedia campaigns and carry out thorough evaluations.

Qualifications:

Currently working in the field with significant and demonstrable communications and public information management and writing experience. Knowledge of the public sector preferable, particularly in the area of housing.


Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills including across digital platforms
Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage different projects with competing deadlines
Excellent interpersonal skills, including diplomacy and discretion to be able to liaise with a wide range of people
Ability to interpret complex information and present it in a simple, clear and engaging way to a wide range of audiences
Eye for a good media story and strong storytelling skills
Experience
Experience writing for newsletters
Experience in delivering multi-media campaigns and helping to create or edit video
Experience of supporting internal communication strategies or projects
Experience in using a wide range of different media to create engaging content
Experience in dealing with, and knowledge of, print, broadcast, digital and social media
Experience in responding to media enquiries and selling in stories to journalists
Previous experience of working within the public or housing sector desirable
Experience of writing for the web and using a content management system would be a bonus

Self-motivated and confident working independently at times
