The Workforce and OD function in Hywel Dda is very progressive and has embark on a new vision and direction for the whole Directorate based on a HR Disrupted type approach.

We are looking for an individual who can focus on high quality people solutions, is valued for their efficiency, expertise and partnering capability and service.


We are therefore looking for a brave individual who is ready to challenge and completely change existing practice to ensure we design our practices around stakeholder requirements.

A key element will be to enhance the Health Board's ability to attract and retain the right individuals and to create an organisation in which staff want to remain.

To do we are taking account of their views in designing our new way of doing things and working in a social partnership model with our trade unions.

Applicants will need to demonstrate significant experience at senior level in employee relations management including complex case management.

You will need to be credible and able to quickly build rapport and gain the confidence of Executive Directors, other Senior Managers and our trade union colleagues.

You will be values driven and able to demonstrate a compassionate leadership approach.

A key quality will be the ability to lead, motivate and manage an experienced Workforce Operational team based at our offices in Aberystwyth and Haverfordwest.


This post can be based at either Withybush Hospital in Pembrokeshire or in Bronglais Hospital in Ceredigion although will be expected to have a presence in both.

It is expected that around 60% of time will need to be spent in the workplace for the role - around 40% can be undertaken remotely.

Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.

Our 11,000 members of staff provide primary, community, in-hospital, mental health and learning disabilities services for around 384,000 people across a quarter of the landmass of Wales.

We do this in partnership with our three local authorities and public, private and third sector colleagues, including our volunteers, through:


Four main hospitals:
Bronglais General in Aberystwyth, Glangwili General in Carmarthen, Prince Philip in Llanelli and Withybush General in Haverfordwest;

Seven community hospitals:
Amman Valley and Llandovery in Carmarthenshire; Tregaron, Aberaeron and Cardigan in Ceredigion; and Tenby and South Pembrokeshire Hospital Health and Social Care Resource Centre in Pembrokeshire;
48 general practices (five of which are managed practices), 47 dental practices (including three orthodontic), 99 community pharmacies, 44 general ophthalmic practices (43 providing Eye Health Examination Wales and 34 low vision services) and 17 domiciliary only providers and 11 health centres;
Numerous locations providing mental health and learning disabilities services;

Highly specialised and tertiary services commissioned by the Welsh Health Specialised Services Committee, a joint committee representing seven health boards across Wales.
