What you'll be doing

  • To be the first point of contact for all first level HR queries/activities giving operational advice and support to managers on all people related matters including recruitment/selection, discipline, grievance, change management, policy interpretation,job evaluation and employment law
  • To support and administer the councils processes in relation to the employee lifecycle as directed
  • Support to staff on matters relating to their health, wellbeing and employment
  • Leading on HR casework/activities as directed and providing all the necessary support and advice to managers
  • Identification and referral of issues which may have cross service implications to ensure a consistent and coordinated whole service approach

You must have

  • Relevant qualification and/or equivalent level of experiential learning or demonstration of transferrable skills
  • Experience of working in an HR environment and giving advice to managers
  • Experience of maintaining accurate information/records
  • Experience of developing relationships with a range of stakeholders internally
  • Demonstrates a general knowledge of employment law and HR practice
  • Evidence of continued personal development
  • Ability to coach managers
  • Good analytical and IT skills
  • Good communication skills and emotional intelligence including good listening skills and the ability to respond to the diverse needs of others
  • Able to demonstrate a sound understanding of diversity, equality and safeguarding issues
  • Commercially focused and results driven
  • Ability to be objective and give constructive feedback
  • Ability to build credibility quickly
  • Ability to lead by example and influence others
  • Ability to manage and deliver against conflicting deadlines/priorities
