We have an exciting opportunity to join the Technical team as a Specification Technologist at our Hamilton site as part of 'Finsbury Food Group'.

135 years of craft baking skills lie behind the quality of the special branded cakes, sweet snacks and slices we produce in Hamilton and 55 million products are produced each year.

Lightbody is the UK's largest supplier of celebration cakes to UK retailers, with Disney, Mars, Universal and Thorntons all within the portfolio of branded cakes made under licence.

We also make a variety of supermarkets' well-loved own-label cakes and in-store bakery bites.

To be a success in this role, you will need a can-do attitude, be able to work as part of a team and demonstrate clear communication skills.

You will have previous experience of working in the food processing/manufacturing industry and qualifications in Food Science, Technology/Nutrition or relevant experience.


This is what you'll actually do


In this busy and varied role you will be a vital part of the Technical team reporting to the Technical Manager and will be responsible for ensuring the designated critical path stages between concept handover and products launches are achieved, working in conjunction with colleagues in Process, Development and Production to deliver great value, safe, innovative and quality assured food.


Day to day you will be responsible for ensuring that all required internal and external documentation is completed to specification and on time to the highest standard.

You will also check artwork and packaging against agreed pack copy, legal/company requirement and ingredient specifications ensuring any non-compliance is reported and followed up.


Part of the role will include supporting effective factory trials as necessary for customer and internal requirements, following approved procedures, ensuring that all documentation is completed, actions are followed up and issues are communicated fully.

During launch periods you will also provide support to the wider Technical and Operations teams.


You will be required to have a detailed practical knowledge of current factory processes to ensure specifications reflect the most up to date site processes and procedure.

Alongside this you will ensure customer documentation fully reflects the capabilities of the factory.

Customer relationships are hugely important to us being a success and you will be required to agree timings and respond to queries in a timely manner including providing Sample Submission Forms, Specifications, QAS, Weight/Trial and Launch information.


There will also be the opportunity to identify, investigate and manage selected projects to support the increase in Technical knowledge of the business.


In the role will work closely with the site operations team and therefore you will need good communication to build positive relationships with key stakeholders.


Ideally this is you

  • Food manufacturing experience with qualifications in food science, technology/nutrition or relevant experience
  • Awareness of food intolerance and allergens and knowledge of up to date food labelling legislation
