An opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Crafts Person (Building) to work within our Estates Services team.


You will be required to undertake reactive/planned maintenance and installation work in a variety of Trust premises maintain high technical standards of workmanship and ensure compliance with all statutory requirements by action and advice as necessary.


Experienced in all types of building maintenance, you will have proven knowledge of health and safety, good communication skills and remain calm under pressure.

A CSCS card would also be an advantage.


Working a 37.5 hr week you would be working across sites the Trust manages throughout the region - a van is provided for use whilst on Trust business.


As part of the Estates team you will also be required (following a period of induction) to participate in an on-call rota outside normal working hours, additional payments will be made for this.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Undertake Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM), repairs, minor improvements and new works as required across the Trust, including:

  • Participation in a single man emergency on call rota system, for which a separate additional payment is made.
  • To be prepared to work occasionally in areas which may be potentially hazardous where a need exists to use a permit to work systems, specific health and safety guidance and use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • To carry out painting and decorating as required.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of all paving and road surfaces.
  • Installation, maintenance and repair of all brickwork and masonry.
  • Clear minor drain blockages in gullies, gutters, sinks down pipes, wastes etc.
  • Construction and repair of floors, roofs, timberframed walls, partitions, fire escapes, boundary fences and gates.
  • Rectify/make safe if possible any faults discovered and report to Estates Management
  • Manufacture and/or repair items of joinery work such as doors, window frames and sashes, staircases and general equipment items.
  • Install and repair worktops, benches, shelving, cupboards and associated fitments.
  • Installation and repair of architectural and building ironmongery (door furniture) locks and security systems, door closers and floor springs, etc.
  • Replace appropriate glass to internal and external doors and windows.
  • Install internal and external directional and information signs of metal, plastic and or timber from ceiling or to walls/doors etc.
  • Carry out repairs to furniture, e.g. chairs, beds, wardrobes, settees, bedside tables and lockers.
  • Learn additional skills as part of the development of the building craftsman's role.
  • Install and repair all types of curtain tracking and blinds.
  • Repairs to metal door and suspended ceiling systems.
  • Installation and repairs of all types of floor and wall coverings.
  • Ensure spares and materials are utilised appropriately and economically.
  • Safely operate and maintain all fixed and mobile tools, equipment and workshop machinery.
  • Interpret and work to instructions, drawings and specifications.
  • Erection and dismantling of tower scaffolding.
  • Fully cooperate with the appropriate procedures required for the efficient daytoday operation of the labour management system (currently FACTS) including completion of all job tickets and timesheets.
  • Complete log sheets, report sheets and test certificates for legislative and statutory requirements as necessary.
  • Learn additional skills as part of the development of the Building Craftsman's role.
  • Instruct others on aspects of building maintenance.
  • Carry and provide and respond to pager/mobile phone, including emergencies, at all times whilst on duty.
  • Drive the Estates Services department vehicles as required.
  • Ensure that in carrying out all duties there is a compliance with HTM's (Health Technical Memoranda) statutory regulations, current legislation, local codes of practice and policies.
  • Undertake statutory and mandatory training as requested.
