We are currently recruiting for a permanent 0.9 FTE (31.5 hours a week) Careers Consultant to join our small, friendly and supportive team of Careers Consultants for Researchers - a part of the central team at King's Careers and Employability.

We are looking for someone with a commitment to, and an interest in, supporting PhD students and research staff with their career management and progression.

As a King's Careers Consultant for Researchers you will provide careers guidance, activities and resources that support the career management and progression of King's PhD students and research staff, both within and beyond academia.

This will be through a combination of webinars, workshops, one-to-one guidance and the development of e-learning and other resources.

You will also contribute to the work of the wider careers team that work with undergraduate and post graduate students.

Supporting researchers is a fascinating environment within which to work and one that is currently undergoing many changes - from taking action to improve diversity and inclusion in academia, to conversations about research culture, career precarity, working outside academia and many more.

We also learn from a multitude of perspectives from PhD students to experienced academics and professional staff.

A key part of this role will be for you to build strong relationships and communicate effectively with the academic staff, academic teams, employers, alumni and other professionals in and beyond the university careers and researcher support teams in order to design and deliver the best possible career support.

The Careers & Employability team is here to support all students and researchers and we achieve that by valuing diversity and being inclusive in what we do - and we're actively learning ways to do it better.

We'd like you to be part of that and bring your own lived experience to working with us as a Careers Consultant.

  • Note_: Research staff at King's are postdoctoral staff, research assistants, technicians and teaching fellows, in fact all those other than PhD students who are engaged in research and who do not yet have an independent, permanent academic or managerial position.
