The Role

Are you passionate about maintaining quality within the Policing learning and assessment world, helping to set gold standards of delivery and assessment and supporting others in their professional development? If so, this exciting opportunity could be for you


Working as part of a collaborated IQA Governance Team across both Surrey and Sussex, your main role will be to support and develop a team of assessors, whilst maintaining standards across the Police Entry Route provisions.

You will be supported to achieve your L4 Internal Quality Assurance qualification and L3 Award in Education and Training (if not already achieved).


As well as working closely with internal delivery teams, this role will also give you opportunity to work with external organisations such as Awarding Bodies and a consortium of Universities.

You will also have the opportunity to gain an understanding about quality and compliance in the wider Further Education sector, encompassing OFSTED and the ESFA.

Key Responsibilities

  • To conduct quality assurance and improvement activities in line with the IQA Strategy and awarding body requirements throughout the learner journey.
  • Monitor and evaluate the performance of assessors, to provide assurance that internal standards are being met and to support assessor personal development planning.
  • Monitor and sample assessments to ensure learners' progress timely through their programme providing clear, constructive, supportive, and timely feedback to assessors.
  • Organise and lead standardisation and professional development activities for assessors to ensure a consistently high quality of assessment.
  • Resolve appeals, referring these through the management chain where necessary, to ensure consistency and fairness in assessment decisions and to protect and enhance the reputation of the assessment process.
  • Maintain complete records of all activities, to ensure that internal verification activities are open to wider internal and (where relevant) external quality assurance.
  • Contribute to the development of quality assurance policies, practices, and standards to support consistent assessment practice and continuous improvement.
  • Work in collaboration to undertake EQA visits under the direction of the Quality Assurance Lead to ensure Awarding Organisation compliance.
  • Support unqualified assessors in the completion of their Assessor and/or Internal Quality Assurer qualifications.
  • Obtain, collate, and act upon feedback from learners and their line managers (employer).
  • Deliver induction training to new assessors.
Skills & Experience

  • To hold a L3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment or equivalent Certificate in assessing vocational achievement.
  • To be an accredited Internal Quality Assurer or be willing to work towards such a qualification.
  • Operational competence in the area of work that is being assessed.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Policing Education Qualification Framework (PEQF).
  • Understands and applies the principles of internal quality assurance to follow, evaluate and improve verification policies, systems and processes.
  • Understands and applies the principles of assessment moderation and standardisation.
  • Effective stakeholder relationship management skills, able to identify key stakeholders and to take appropriate steps to understand their needs and concerns.
  • Able to motivate a team and to develop and maintain their professional competence.
  • Able to plan ahead, and to identify and mitigate risks to delivery.
  • Able to review and assess individual and team performance against expected standards, providing objective and effective feedback and ensuring corrective actions are taken where necessary.
  • Able to manage the introduction of new business processes or ways of working at team level.
  • Able to review own performance objectively and to take steps to maintain and enhance competence and professional standards appropriate to the role.
