Acorn by Synergie is recruiting for Kitchen Assistants on behalf of a Public Sector client based in Caerphilly Borough.

The main duties of this role include providing general kitchen assistance in the production and service of any food provision, includinghot and cold meals, snacks, and/or functions.

Key result areas:

Food to be cooked in accordance with recipe manual and presented in an appetising manner
Internal quality audits have a low level of nonconformities
Food costs are at the required target figures
Customer complaints are dealt with quickly and satisfactorily
High level of meal uptake
Ensure targets set in PDRs are met
Low level of accidents
Ensuring that bookwork and financial records complies with the standards of the authority
Ensuring that all Council policies are met and adhered to

Detailed task profile:

Work under the supervision of the Cook in Charge and/or Cook and/or Assistant Cook and to assist and carry out any instructions given, in the preparation, cooking and serving of food, beverages, snacks etc.; clearing away; washing up and cleaning processesobserving all food hygiene and health and safety regulations
Have regard for the customer's needs and to be able to handle complaints
Report any hazards, risks, or areas of concern (particularly with regard to hygiene) to senior staff
Punctual and flexible and to be prepared to work at varying times of day in order to ensure the smooth running of the catering unit and that customer's needs are met
Prepared to work additional hours as required due to absenteeism, increase in demand for meals etc. in consultation with your line manager
Handle cash, operate cash registers and associated systems, and to complete any necessary paperwork when necessary
Check, clean, restock and collect cash from vending machines, where appropriate
Undertake any training considered necessary for the post as required, to include any training resulting from performance assessments
Comply with the requirements of Caerphilly Catering Services quality systems as detailed in the Workplace Practices Manual and/or other manuals/instructions

Qualifications and training:

Level 2 Food Safety Or ability to undertake and achieve the qualification within 3 months of appointment
Manual Handling
Safeguarding children/POVA training

Knowledge:

Understands the role to perform duties effectively and efficiently
Appreciates the need to support and respect equalities principles
Understands the impact of own work on others

Skills:

Able to confidently answer questions on area of responsibility
Able to communicate effectively
Able to work with the minimum of supervision
Ability to work precisely and effectively under pressure and to deadlines and have a strong sense of purpose
