Permanent - Full Time (40 hours per week)

  • HMP Oakwood is an innovative prison which has been highlighted by HM Inspectorate of Prisons as an "Impressive institution, with a culture of decency and respect. Driven by courageous leadership, excellent peerled initiatives and outstanding management of learning and skills provisions".
  • Within Care and Rehabilitation Services, the philosophy of our prisons is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them to reintegrate into mainstream society on release. We seek to normalise prison conditions as far as possible to reflect life in the outside community. Our aim is to create an environment in which staff and prisoners feel safe and causes of prison stress are minimised. Central to our philosophy is the relationship between staff and prisoners. Our training and operational practices emphasise the need to treat prisoners with dignity and respect and G4S staff build positive and supportive relationships with the prisoners in their care. HMP Oakwood is one of the largest prisons in England and Wales, providing places for up to approximately 2100 Category C male prisoners.
  • Some of the key responsibilities are;
  • Deliver the curriculum relevant to specialist areas, employability related qualifications
  • Assist in the development of learning materials to ensure quality and consistency of teaching materials.
  • Undertake assessments so that prisoners have the opportunity to achieve recognised qualifications.
  • Register and claim certification with awarding bodies and ensure compliance to meet awarding body requirements.
  • Supporting them to write CV's and cover letters
  • Help residents to understand what skills they have and how they can transfer these skills to various trades.
  • Support individuals for support with their maths and English and reading
  • Support any ESOL learners by referring them to ESOL
  • Support PLI (Prisoner Lead Initiatives) and the mentoring programme
  • Engage with employers and build up strong rapport, creating links and job opportunities for residents upon release.
  • Partnership work with NOVUS, IAG, OMU, Resettlement, Job Centre and the Prison Employability Lead
  • Organise business enterprise opportunities, inviting employers and training providers into the establishment to showcase the support and opportunities ready for residents upon release.
  • Complete all documentation as required to meet the requirements of the Company, the contract and relevant external bodies.
  • Monitor student progress so that students receive appropriate support to achieve their goals and contractual requirements are fulfilled.
  • Manage the teaching environment ensuring security of tools and equipment and maintenance of equipment to contractual requirements.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:


You will ideally have Multi Skilled Vocational experience and an ability to support and work with others to deliver objectives.

Experience of project / work planning, monitoring and reviewing would be advantageous but not essential.
