ESH Advisor - Nuclear - North West - Permanent


Due to rapid and continued growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an ESH Advisor to join a leading contract organisation, delivering consultancy services, engineering solutions and site operation support, to some of the UK's leading Defence contractors.


The ESH Advisor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and health regulations, as well as promoting a culture of safety and sustainability.

Their expertise in nuclear industry-specific regulations and best practices will be essential in providing guidance and support to all levels of the organisation.


Key Responsibilities:


Environmental:

  • Monitoring and assessing environmental regulations and requirements specific to the nuclear industry
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental management systems and procedures
  • Conducting environmental audits and inspections to identify potential risks and noncompliance issues
  • Coordinating with regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with permits and licenses
  • Providing guidance on waste management, pollution prevention, and environmental impact assessments

Safety and Health:

  • Monitoring and evaluating safety and health regulations relevant to the nuclear industry
  • Developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and health management systems and procedures
  • Conducting safety inspections and risk assessments to identify potential hazards and noncompliance issues
  • Promoting and facilitating safety training programs for employees at all levels Investigating accidents, incidents, and nearmisses to identify root causes and recommend corrective actions

Regulatory:

  • Staying up to date with applicable nuclear industry regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Interpreting and communicating regulatory requirements to management and employees
  • Collaborating with crossfunctional teams to develop strategies and action plans for compliance
  • Assisting in the preparation and submission of regulatory reports and documentation
  • Participating in regulatory inspections and audits, providing support and guidance to address findings

Culture of Safety and Sustainability:

  • Promoting a strong safety culture by fostering awareness and commitment to safety principles
  • Supporting the integration of sustainable practices into daily operations
  • Developing and delivering training programs on safety and sustainability topics
  • Advising on the selection and implementation of appropriate safety equipment and technologies
  • Collaborating with crossfunctional teams to identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications and Skills:


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental, safety, and health roles within the nuclear industry
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear industry regulations, standards, and best practices
  • Experience with environmental permitting, waste management, and pollution prevention. Familiarity with safety management systems, risk assessments, and incident investigation methodologies
  • Excellent understanding of emergency response planning and coordination
