Band 2 Healthcare Assistant - Outpatients Princess Royal University Hospital & South Sites

To work within the care group across South Sites to provide a comprehensive, patient centred out patients service.

You will be required to work within Kings College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust policy guidelines, and promote the trust objectives.


We are looking for a calm, creative, flexible and efficient Health Care Assistant who can understand the needs of patients and visitors, whose priority is to deliver high quality patient care.

As a team member, you will work collectively with colleagues to achieve the Trust's core values. You should be able to communicate clearly and be keen to learn within the scope of this role.


The post holder has a general duty of care for their own health, safety and wellbeing and that of work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital, in addition to any specific risk management or clinical governance accountabilities associated with this post.


To observe the rules, policies, procedures and standards of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust together with all relevant statutory and professional obligations.

To observe and maintain strict confidentiality of personal information relating to patients and staff.


To be responsible, with management support, for their own personal development and to actively contribute to the development of colleagues.

  • Preparation and clearing of clinic areas to assist in the smooth running of the department.
  • Assist patients, medical and nursing staff during clinics.
  • Help with clerical support to the clinics.
  • Ensure clinical examination rooms, treatment rooms and theatre (where in use) is clean and well stocked.
  • Perform clinical measurements on patients and document appropriately
  • Escort and direct patients to other departments as appropriate.
  • Check patients into a clinic where appropriate.
  • Assist with the running of the clinics.
  • Assist with general nursing duties following instruction and supervised practice. (This will be at the discretion of the Matron/Sister).
  • To provide clear and effective information and communication, both verbally and in writing. Promptly referring enquiries to the relevant person
  • To maintain confidentiality at all times, in and out of the hospital environment To adhere to, and work within the code of conduct for health care assistants at King's College Hospital
  • To be able to identify with support own development needs, completing a competency document and learning objectives within a specified time frame and as agreed by manager
  • To ensure own attendance at mandatory study days and training (BLS, manual handling etc.) as required by department manager
  • To update skills and knowledge as required by the Trust.
  • To actively participate in annual individual performance review
  • To work within and support the multidisciplinary team.
  • To maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all areas within the care group and associated clinical areas within the Trust
  • To participate in reflection and or clinical supervision sessions as provided
  • To observe collective responsibility for resource management
  • To demonstrate ability to manage own workload and maintaining the clinical environment.
  • To observe a general duty of care for the health, safety and wellbeing of self, work colleagues, visitors and patients within the hospital
  • To participate in any specific risk management associated with the post, reporting and taking appropriate actions as necessary
