Senior Physical Processes Consultant


Anderson McQue is recruiting for our client who is Europe's leading independent environmental consultancy specialising in freshwater and marine ecology and aerial surveys.

Our client has offices in England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland and the US. They are very passionate about the environment and its proper management, protection and sustainable use.


Due to continued growth our client is now looking for an experienced, highly motivated Senior Physical Processes Consultant, to join their physical processes team, reporting to the Principal Consultant in Consenting and Marine.


The role


Please, note that due to the company's desire to regularly work together face-to-face as a team the successful applicant needs to live within a commutable distance of their office.

Time in the office is required 1 day per week, the rest of the time you will work from home.


Key Responsibilities

  • To provide technical support to the marine sediment and water quality related workstreams, managing and delivering technical assessments to support offshore wind development projects.
  • To provide technical advice, assessment and strategic direction to existing clients and projects and contribute to and/or lead on stakeholder liaison in support of clients.
  • To provide specialist input and advice on the interaction of marine developments on the receiving physical environment as part of the wider EIA and HRA processes.
  • To provide physical processes support on the UK project portfolio, advising project staff on marine sediment water quality related issues, including the interaction of marine developments on the receiving physical environment, as required.
  • To provide data gathering and data management support, assisting with the sourcing, manipulation and management of technical data and the production of highquality reports for Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • To carry out any additional activities that may be reasonably required or requested.
  • To take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and others; make use of the tools, equipment, training, and resources; and actively engage with colleagues at all levels to contribute to the continuous improvement of health and safety management.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience/Qualifications

Essential:


  • Educated to at least degree level, (preferably MSc/PhD level) in a relevant discipline (geosciences, oceanography, etc.).
  • Excellent written and oral communication, organisational and time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of the technical assessments underpinning marine processes work (e.g. numerical modelling, sediment plumes and hydrodynamic assessments etc.), ideally related to offshore wind development.
  • Understanding of marine and coastal processes, including coastal behaviour, seabed mobility, seabed features and the interaction between oceanography, sedimentary and geomorphological processes.
  • Demonstrated experience of working with physical process datasets.

Desirable:


  • Familiarity with commonly used numerical modelling packages (for example MIKE21, Delft3D).
  • A professional manner, with strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate at all levels both within the company and externally.
  • Experience of working within the planning process, ideally in England, Wales, or Scotland.
  • Experience working with regulators and stakeholders.
