An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated and experienced nurse with specialist palliative care experience at a senior level, to join our existing specialist palliative care team.

The post holder will be an integral part of the specialist team providing expert knowledge, high quality care and psychological support to patients and their families requiring specialist palliative care.


The applicant must be able to demonstrate specialist knowledge and skills in the field of palliative care and have work experience in the acute setting and demonstrate an energy and enthusiasm for the speciality.

The applicant must also be willing to take on extended professional roles including non-medial prescribing.

  • RGN with proven post registration experience.
  • Be able to demonstrate extensive nursing experience in palliative care either in acute or community setting at a senior level.
  • Will possess a healthcare related degree and post registration qualification palliative care or oncology.
  • Experience and knowledge in the management of complex physical and psychological symptoms.
  • Experience in managing own work or case load effectively and demonstrate good organisational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and demonstrate the ability to work well as part of a multi disciplinary team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

To provide specialist advice and education to patients, relatives, carers and other Health Care Professionals requiring palliative care within the hospital.

The post holder will autonomously manage a nurse led caseload according to agreed protocols; using advanced skills in assessing and treating a variety of conditions, including non-malignant and malignant life limiting conditions.

The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in oncology, palliative care, ED, acute medicine, radiology and pathology to ensure quality and care to the patient is maximised.

This will include the development of clinical guidelines, audit and education programmes
