Maintenance and Caretaking Supervisor


LOCATION:

RESPONSIBLE TO:
Finance &Operations Director


RESPONSIBLE FOR:
To supervise the day-to-day maintenance and caretaking service for the site.

provided by the Finance & Operations Director or any person delegated to act on their behalf.


HOURS OF WORK:40 hours per week: Monday to Friday, all year round. Plus at least 6 Saturdays/Sundays pa.


ANNUAL LEAVE:
The post-holder will be entitled to 20 days Annual Leave rising to 25 after 5 year's service together with 8 Bank Holidays and 3 Occasional Days

Depending on skills & experience


MAIN DUTIES

  • The supervision of the inhouse maintenance and caretaking teams, undertaking planned, preventative, reactive and remedial maintenance task and caretaking duties.
  • Oversee the performance and discipline of the team in line with the school policy, liaising with the HR department as and when required.
  • Be the main point of contact for and liaise with suppliers and contractors to ensure that delivery of service is in line with the schools requirements.

LIST OF DUTIES

  • Daily briefing of the team on their tasks, ensuring they have the necessary tools, equipment and PPE to perform the tasks in accordance with the Schools Health & Safety policy.
  • Work with the management team to plan and programme works.
  • To be responsible for the daytoday supervision and deployment of the maintenance & caretaking staff. This includes arranging cover for staff absence, including annual leave; approving essential overtime; be actively involved in the recruitment of new staff; carrying out annual appraisals and training for all teams members and consulting with the Head of HR and Finance & Operations Director regarding formal procedures.
  • Work in conjunction with key colleagues to ensure the smooth running of the school site including, Finance & Operations Director, Lettings Manager, Cleaning & Domestic Services Supervisor and Senior Groundsman.
  • Provide support and work collaboratively with colleagues based at Bronte House (Junior school).
  • Actively use the Raise a Ticket system to monitor progress of issues and routine Activities and the allocation of tasks to team members.
  • Responsible for overseeing the running of the swimming pool, including arrange, coordinate and carry out, appropriate testing and dosing of the swimming pool, as required. (Training can be provided)
  • Coordinate the regular routine servicing and maintenance of equipment/Minibuses as required.
  • Be the main contact for third party contractors. This includes obtaining quotes, requesting appropriate documentation, monitoring work quality etc.
  • Be responsible for the Maintenance and Caretaking department budget, in conjunction with the Finance & operations Director.
  • Working in conjunction with the Health & Safety Supervisor, assist with all site Health & Safety matters, includes those relating to Fire, Legionella, Asbestos, COSHH etc.
  • Maintain risk assessments for the maintenance and caretaking department.
  • Site security including coordination of nightly lock up.

  • You must be aware that you are responsible for your own safety and the safety of others in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work Act as revised from time to time.
  • Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, security, confidentiality and data protection.
  • Participate in training, other learning activities and performance development as required.
  • Attend and participate in meetings as required.
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, work and aims of the school

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Supervision of a team.
  • Basic Computer Skills

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • D1 driving licence
  • Maintenance specialism ie painting, plumbing etc
  • Pool Plant experience
