About the opportunity
Forensic science is used to support the investigation of crime.
It can be used to provide evidence to support or refute an allegation, a version of events and a person's involvement in an offence.
The Digital Forensics Unit (DFU) is committed to providing quality, objective, timely and effective forensic services to inform investigations, in support of our Policing Plan through modern policing, early intervention, supporting victims and witnesses, managing offenders and public confidence.
The Digital Forensic Media Investigator role is key to delivering the aims of the Force and this opportunity is not to be missed if you have:- A genuine passion for technology.
- Experience of working with media data (CCTV, Videography, Digital Audio Workstations).
- A need for continuous improvement, with a sense of professional curiosity.
- Desire to help protect the most vulnerable and the wider community, supporting officers and the Criminal Justice System.
This will include, but is not limited to, the disassembly of digital video recorders, acquisition of data storage, using specialised digital forensic tools to process such data and using your skills and knowledge to review results from such processes.
You will be working with recovered data to produce working copies of visual and audio evidence for use within the Criminal Justice System.
This may be a simple conversion to usable format or a complex compilation of media to present a series of events.
Work will be completed in adherence to ISO17025, the Forensic Science Regulator's Codes of Practice and Conduct and Force-specific policies and procedures.
You will be creating material and statements that feed directly into the Criminal Justice System and will be required to attend Court to present evidence in an expert capacity.
Due to the nature of the role and the casework within the Unit, you may be exposed to indecent images and videos of children, acts of extreme violence or graphic and distressing video of serious injury and death.
Robust welfare provision is in place to ensure you are supported in the role; further information will be discussed as part of the recruitment process.
