You'll learn how to support the core business in the delivery of generalist and specialist HR services within our Chief People Officer function.

What will I be doing?

  • You'll begin a comprehensive development programme designed to kick start your successful career in HR. A combination of practical, on the job experience and theory will combine to give you an overview of best professional practise, resourcing and talent planning, performance management and employment law.
  • As an apprentice, your 30month development programme will be made up of up to five placement rotations. Our aim is to equip you with the range of skills and experience you need for your successful career. We also understand that everyone's career is different, so every apprentice's journey is unique.
Here's an idea of what yours could look like:


Business Services

  • Your first placement will be in our HR Services team, providing the first line response to business queries, gaining an indepth knowledge of our policies and how things work at TfL.

HR Strategy

  • You will get the chance to complete two placements in our Subject Matter Expert teams, providing you with the opportunity to specialise in a more technical areas of HR, which can include, Talent, Reward, Recruitment, Diversity & Inclusion, Skills & Employment, Learning & Development, Organisational Change and Employee Relations

HR Business Partner

  • Your final placement will be in the HR Business Partnering team, supporting a range of initiatives including talent and resourcing, change programmes and organisational structure and design.

Where can this career take me?

  • You'll gain a CIPD Level 5 in Applied Human Resources and become a CIPD associate member. Through a combination of onthejob learning and classroom training, you'll develop the diverse skills and understanding needed for a successful career in HR. This foundation can lead to a role in employee case management, recruitment, learning and development, talent, diversity and inclusion, or business partnering depending on which areas you have developed interests in on the scheme.
    What training and support will you get?
  • Our awardwinning teams will support your ongoing development, through a wide range of onthejob practical experience and placements. We'll support your professional development through a combination of training, mentoring, and networking.
  • You'll also receive onetoone guidance throughout the programme from your:
  • Whilst on the scheme, we'll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We'll also support your professional development through a combination of classroom-led training courses, online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your scheme sponsor and your placement Manager. You'll also be connected to a 'buddy' who will be a more experienced apprentice from the scheme.
  • You'll typically have one day a week study day, course work to complete and classroom training will require travel to our partner's site.
