The Opportunity


We are looking for a proactive and engaging person with significant client exposure, advising and directing on social value / social impact to join Arup's Northwest and Yorkshire Team.

You will work alongside the Social Value Director and our Social Value Delivery Manager for NW&Y to manage the day-to-day running of the team, including line management of more junior consultants.


You will direct the advisory service to clients for our team, focusing on clients in the NW&Y in the built environment sector.

You will be able to project manage a range of projects for commercial and public sector clients across the UK.

You will work in multi-disciplinary teams for the delivery of major developments and infrastructure projects across the UK and you will work with a wide range of Arup specialist in fields such as engineers, planners, economists and sustainability consultants.

You will have the ability to work collaboratively with other social value specialists across the UK, playing a key role in shaping our services to clients.


Current and recent projects include embedding social benefits in the business case for flood alleviation schemes with the Environment Agency, developing social impact strategies and frameworks for property clients, developing place-based social value plans for energy programmes, creating a national youth forum to enable youth engagement in the nuclear waste sector and advising on sustainable procurement approaches with infrastructure clients.

Internally, the team have steered the development of place-based 'Know Your City' plans for our offices across the UK, ensuring that our social value delivery as a business better meets local needs, creating a sustainable impact.


The role will include managing high-quality social value consultancy services for clients whilst helping shape how social value is embedded within Arup's infrastructure and built environment projects across the UK.

You will support bid and project teams in our Liverpool office to design and develop social value commitments to meet local need, clients' requirements, and to ensure that these are realised, monitored and reported on our contracts.

Furthermore, you will play an active role in developing internal materials, systems and processes to continually improve how social value is planned, delivered and monitored in Arup.


Is this role right for you?
We are looking for a self-starter with project management skills able to work in a multi-disciplinary environment.

You will have proven experience of developing and delivering social value projects and programmes in a client-facing environment, in particular skills and experience in:


  • Influencing a range of clients and stakeholders at different levels in organisations
  • Producing social value action plans partnering with local organisations and developing combined approaches
  • Using and adapting a wide range of social value impact measurement approaches, tools and metrics
  • Utilising recognised project management tools and approaches to lead projects
  • Selling and marketing services to clients, including participating in external, industry networks
This position will be based in the Liverpool office, working from the office at least two days per week.

You will lead our social value approach across Liverpool City Region and build long-term local partnerships to best meet local need.
