Planner / Senior Planner - ESD

Location, Scotland, Flexible
An opportunity has arisen for Planning Professionals to join the team at Galliford Try.


The Senior Planner role supports the business unit by ensuring effective planning techniques are provided to support the planning, monitoring and reporting across a wide range of projects of varying scale and complexity.


What you will be doing:


  • Ensure that the programme content and functionality is compliant with the Planning Processes and Procedures
  • Provide full lifecycle planning support across multiple projects
  • Build NEC compliant programmes from first principles using relevant Scope, specifications & drawings. Identifying contract requirements and constraints.
  • Liaise with other functional staff (e.g design/procurement/commissioning) to ensure the programme incorporates all activities and detailed logic associated with those functions
  • Participate in Collaborative Planning workshops and events as part of the project team
  • Progress Monitoring, analysing, and trending schedule and cost information and providing summaries to project leads to allow proactive action to be timely implemented
  • Prepare progress data and produce relevant progress reports
  • Proactively Identify alternative methodologies/sequences that improve project completion date(s) or mitigate existing sequences
  • Provide planning support to commercial function to demonstrate cause and effect when submitting CE's and quotations
  • Work collaboratively as part of a regional team and share experience to support junior personnel

About You:


  • Experienced Primavera software user essential, further understanding of Microsoft Project & 4D Planning Software is advantageous
  • Degree in an engineering or project/construction management discipline although relevant experience or related qualification will be considered
  • Significant experience in creating design & construction programmes from first principles that are compliant with the NEC form of contract, preferably with experience in the water industry although not essential
  • Ability to update programmes and provide forward thinking planning support to the project teams including performance reporting & change management.
  • Able to communicate at all levels to ensure programme data is clear & concise to aid in informed decision making within the project team.
  • Knowledge & understanding of earned value principles & methodology
  • Good IT skills including software skills in MS Excel & Word. Further understanding of MS PowerBI and reporting software desirable.
  • Project management qualifications & professional memberships of a relevant institution are an advantage
