Description
The BID (Business Improvement District) is a business-led and business-funded body created to improve the centre of Hemel Hempstead. Our aim is to provide a safe, attractive, and welcoming environment for visitors and workers.


Our Ambassadors are our most visible presence and are the face of the BID to the public, and our eyes and ears within the town.


On a daily basis you will be pro-actively engaging with the public, providing a friendly welcoming presence and offering help and directions where required.

You will also be supporting a vast schedule of events in the town centre, ensuring that they runsmoothly while working closely with the authorities to help tackle anti-social behaviour and crime.


Reporting to the BID Manager you will be liaising with businesses in the town centre, collating information, looking out for potential areas of concern and monitoring ongoing projects within the town.

This role will involve working shifts allocated between 9:00am and 6:00pm, including Saturdays, some Sundays and Bank Holidays.

This role is on a temporary contract to end 30th October 2023 (may be extended).

Benefits include 20 days holiday plus bank holidays (pro rata).

Working day to day with Hemel Hempstead BID, the role will be employed by Savills Management Services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively engaging with the public providing a friendly welcoming presence offering help and directions where required in all weathers.
  • To work to an action plan agreed with the BID Manager.
  • To prepare own daily plan for discussion with the BID Manager.
  • To attend weekly briefings with the BID Manager.
  • Liaising with businesses in the town centre, building relationships, communicating relevant information and handling/escalating their enquiries as appropriate.
  • To have effective interaction with local authorities e.g. Police, local Council.
  • To maintain regular contact with BID levy payers, keep them informed of BID activities and relay any pertinent information to the BID management.
  • Contribution to the BID's social media campaign dependent on skill level ie. taking photographs and talking to people about areas of interest.
  • To have a focus on working with key partners to reduce antisocial behaviour and tackle cleaning issues.
  • To support in the planning and delivery of activities and events.
  • To accurately reflect the BIDs values and service and to be aware of the BID's activities and special events.
  • To keep up to date with and provide visitors with accurate information about the town centre.
  • To forge relationships with town centre partners and pass on relevant information for action, e.g. health and safety issues, graffiti, failed street lights, 'sharps', etc.
  • To make BID management aware of any leisure or retail venue openings or closures within the BID area.
  • Strict attention to personal responsibilities in the areas of risk management and health, safety and welfare, both in terms of self and others.
  • Distribution of literature on behalf of the BID as required.
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures as set out in the Staff Handbook.
  • Adherence to the uniform policy and adherence to the company's general dress code.
  • To refer any requests by the media for comments or information to the BID Manager who will deal with as appropriate.
  • To attend training courses as directed by the BID Manager.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Strong understanding of the roles of key agencies working in Hemel Hempstead town centre.
  • Friendly, outgoing personality.
  • Cando attitude.
  • Confidence in approaching town centre users in a warm, welcoming manner.
  • Ability to build rapport with businesses and answer or report their concerns sensitively and appropriately.
  • Ability to explain and describe geographical town centre locations with concise clarity.
  • Be approachable, listen carefully and deliver what is promised.
  • Ability to remain calm in potentially challenging situations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, when dealing with visitors, residents, police, etc.
  • Have the confidence to work on your own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Willingness and ability to follow operational procedures, as dictated by the Company.
  • Strong work ethic with flexible attitude to duties and hours.
  • Good reporting skills.
  • Smart, presentable and reliable.
  • Be organised, thorough and show attention to detail.

Desirable

  • In depth knowledge of Hemel Hempstead town centre.
  • Passionate about Hemel Hempstead.
Working Hours - 25 hours per week
