SP2 £19,007 pro rata (£9.88/hr)

Hours: 29.5 hrs per week


Based at:
Kenton, Newcastle NE3 3RY

**About Us
Journey Enterprises is a local charity which was founded by parents of young
people with learning disability and complex needs 40 years ago. Launched in
Northumberland we now operate across the north east. We have four Day

Centres:
Acomb and Blyth (Northumberland), Coundon (County Durham) and
Newcastle upon Tyne.

The Charity provides life-skills and employability training for adults with learning
disability, and runs social enterprises to serve our local communities. Clients
play a key part in the success of social enterprises by using the experience as
a stepping stone to employment.
The conditions the Charity supports include Down's, Williams, Fragile X, Prader
Willi, Smith Magenis and Sotos Syndromes, cerebral palsy and also autism. Over
60% of our Clients have co-morbid physical, sensory and/or mental health
disability. We also support Forensic Learning Disability. Our Clients are aged
from 18 to 80+ years and come from a wide range of backgrounds.

Journey believes passionately in enhancing quality of life and giving people
with complex disability opportunities to lead happier and socially-inclusive lives
in their home communities.
Our services are developed on a person-centred approach, designed to meet
each individual's life ambitions and dreams, and underpinned by Positive
Behaviour Support. We work within each person's circles of support,
recognising the expertise and knowledge of the individual and of
unpaid/family carers.


About the Role:
LD Support Worker

Journey's Learning Disability Support Workers plan and deliver a differentiated
a timetable of morning and afternoon activities for groups of 8-10 adults with
learning disabilities and complex needs. Client activities sessions are designed
to meet the requirements of each Client's Care Support Plan, our Day Service
contracts, funded programmes and the Care Act. Activities are held both on
site and in the community, in line with our Day Service contract requirements.

Activities include but are not limited to:

Independent Living Skills:
travel training, financial literacy, community
navigation, using the internet, IT and smartphones, staying safe, navigating
health and key local services, understanding your rights, how to report
concerns;

Creative Arts:
arts and crafts, music therapy, drama and puppetry, film and
photography, newspaper and creative writing;

Heritage and Outdoors:
exploring our heritage, coastal and landscape sites,
going to local visitor attractions and undertaking green or environmental
activities, horticulture;

Health & Fitness Activities:
diet and nutrition, physical and mental health, First
Aid, healthy relationships, men's and women's health, healthy ageing,
participation in team and individual sports, therapeutic exercises, taking part
in outward bound & team-building activities.

Every Client is reviewed formally annually and is assessed on a running basis on
Journey's I Can Assessment Framework.


Work-Based Learning & Enterprise
We train Clients for both volunteering in the community and also for paid
employment on a part-time basis. Clients start their work learning in our
enterprises - community kitchens, market stalls, gardens (horticulture),
woodwork and arts/crafts enterprises. LD Support Workers are actively involved
in our enterprises teaching Clients employability skills.

**Principal Duties: LD Support Worker

  • To plan and deliver a daily programme of activities for Client groups normally
of 8-10 people with learning disability and complex needs;- To work with other LDSWs to design and deliver larger group or team activities;

  • To plan and record session plans as directed by the Hub Manager and record
and evaluate each individual Client's outcomes;- To take part in delivery of funded (Restricted) projects to meet the outcomes

set for the Project;- To take Client outreach activities within community to include: identifying

appropriate activities, driving Clients to/from activities (minibus), planning
- venues for refreshments during half or whole-day activities and ensuring Client
- safety at all times;
  • To participate actively in Hub and interHub occasions including involvement
in whole-team fundraising, sports, creative and performing arts shows, and
- promotional & community events;
  • To contribute to the development of our community;
  • To collaborate with colleagues from the wider Journey Team in whole
- organisation activities, projects and events.
