Job summary:


_ This is an exciting opportunity to join the largest Virology departments in England. The Virology department forms part of The Manchester Medical Microbiology Partnership (MMMP), which is a collaboration between Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) and UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). The laboratory therefore provides both a clinical Virology service and a public health Virology service to the North-West of England and beyond._

The post holder will undertake efficient administration and clerical service in accordance with the laboratory needs. Supervise and co-ordinate the activities of administration and clerical staff working in the office area of the laboratory. Confidentiality, accuracy, and attention to detail are essential._**

_Saturday and Sunday 8.30 to 5pm. _

Job description:


As the Laboratory Administrative Officer Supervisor your main responsibilities will include**:
The job holder will be required to carry out the following responsibilities, activities and duties:

  • To follow agreed protocols and policies seeking advice where appropriate from more senior staff
  • To contribute to the care, maintenance and security of laboratory premises and equipment
  • To demonstrate a positive attitude to the work of the laboratory and other members of the laboratory team
  • To respond to requests for information in a polite, helpful and concise manner
  • To maintain confidentiality in line with the Data Protection Act and following Caldecott guidelines
  • Job holder is expected to participate in the Saturday morning rota and expected to participate in Sunday, Bank Holiday rosters, and "out of hours" service.
  • To supervise office areas, as required ensuring priorities are dealt with effectively and the problems are resolved in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for accessing and handling patient samples and request forms within the confines of a laboratory environment to enable the accurate input and onward transmission of critically accurate data in accordance with laboratory standard operating procedures and consistent with all safety and quality requirements
  • Sample receipt and handling of Dried Blood Spot test cards
  • Labelling of patient samples with laboratory numbers
  • Supervising the clerical staff in the preparation of reports leaving the laboratory for hospital and other clients in the UK and aboard. You will be ordering DX consumables, communicating with DX on undelivered items stock and daily deliveries and organising with the storage provider the pickup of documents for offsite storage and ensure the items are logged on the correct spread sheets.
  • You will be producing the weekly office rotas.
  • The potholder will need to supervise the staff in dispatching of consumables to customers from the laboratory. You will need to carry out regular audits with regards to quarterly Health and Safety

Person specification:


Essential

  • Five GCSE standard including Math and English
  • Evidence of working towards a formal qualification in supervisory management or relevant experience.
  • Experience of problemsolving approach to the range of diverse issues that arise on a daily basis.
  • Evidence of training and development
  • The post holder will be extremely well organized, efficient, and flexible.
  • A good communicator.
  • Has a flexible approach to work and the ability manage demands.
  • Ability to take part in weekend and bank holiday working.
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships.

Desirable

  • EDCL or equivalent
  • Two years of previous supervisory experience in a general office environment.
