About the role:


Based in London, and reporting directly to the Group Chief Investment Officer, the successful contractor will lead the planning and implementation of a traded fixed income function for the Group. Monument Re is a Bermudan-based reinsurer and prominent consolidator of life insurance portfolios. It is a dynamic, fast growing business with excess of €10bn directly managed fixed income assets.**
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and implement the creation of a fixed income team to manage the €7bn+ traded fixed income portfolios for Monument Re Group. This is a predominantly "buy and maintain" portfolio with liabilities in Euro and Sterling
  • Hire and develop a team of 5+ including a head, portfolio managers, analysts and traders to
  • Manage all fixed income assetmanagers and subadviser including setting performance benchmarks
  • Provide highquality supporting research for the setting of investment strategy and individual stock selections
  • Input into the quantitative analytics used for portfolio management, MI, SBA submissions and risk management
  • Manage the portfolio within the Group compliance and Risk Appetite Statement limit
  • Prepare and deliver management, Board (Group and local) and regulatory presentations and reports as required;
  • Carry out duties with integrity and diligence, ensuring that professional standards are maintained at all times.

Role Requirements:


  • Professional qualification in investment or risk management e.g., CFA, FIA or equivalent, or Postgraduate degree;
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in multi£bn direct fixed income management of institutional liability driven funds;
  • Deep knowledge of credit markets including corporate bonds, structured credit, ABS, Emerging Markets and High Yield
  • Experience developing teams and infrastructure.
  • Practical experience of direct investment management, liquidity management and hedging in Bermudian and Solvency II regulatory regimes;
  • Proven ability to think independently manage assets in a practical and solutionsoriented manner;
  • Excellent communicator; Proven stakeholder management, organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent business acumen and risk awareness;
  • Energy and enthusiasm, resilience and independence, a positive attitude and a high degree of integrity.
