The company

My client are a successful multi-category mobile products/telecoms business based in Berkshire, with a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Product Manager to join their team.

This entrepreneurial SME has experienced rapid growth in recent years and plan to continue this with the expansion of Services, Products and Categories, which will create great development and progression opportunities within the business.

They are looking for an experienced Product Manager with 5+ years' worth of a broad span of experience.

The key responsibility for this role is to take ownership of the primarily own-brand mobile accessories portfolio, with the objective of growing businesswith their large base of UK independent retailers, major multi-retail accounts and other B2B and B2C channels.

The job is a senior product management role, together with the requirement to work closely with the Procurement Manager for the selection and management of product suppliers, which are currently China-based.


Roles and responsibilities of the Product Manager:

  • Portfolio:
  • Deliver a competitive portfolio to meet the business's customer requirements including the independent retailer requirements, major multiretailer requirements and other channel and endconsumer requirements in target sectors
  • Competitor Analysis:
  • Be the expert in understanding the competitive landscape to ensure products in the portfolio are comparable to competitor brands and where appropriate create product differentiation to maximise growth of current and new segments
  • Product Expert:
  • Be the product expert in terms of: specifications, impact of specifications on pricing, technical functionality etc.
  • Technical Lead:
  • Be the technical lead for the product roadmap, to ensure new technologies and coming trends are catered for as appropriate in portfolio developments
  • Product Positioning:
  • Develop product pricing and product positioning strategies for each sector to drive growth
  • Sourcing:
  • Work closely with the product sourcing and supplier management functions to select and manage product suppliers to maximise the business's commercial position whilst minimising their commercial and regulatory exposure. This includes working withChinese suppliers on product development.
  • Quality & Compliance:
  • Own product compliance and quality to ensure all products are fully compliant with UK regulations prior to launch and that quality is maintained through product lifecycle
  • New Product Introduction Process:
  • Own the NPI process to ensure effective launch management. Work closely with suppliers, customers and the wider team to deliver successful product launches.

Skills & experience required:

  • Strong track record of successful mobile accessories product management, with proven category expertise
  • Proven track record of managing a portfolio (of multiple segments) and all aspects of product lifecycle management
  • Proven ability to develop product and marketing strategies and effectively communicate recommendations to executive management
  • Solid technical background sufficient to understand the key elements of mobile accessories products so that product specifications can be developed and reviewed, along with working with partners to ensure products are compliant
  • Experience of product sourcing; particularly 'own design' sourcing from China, and managing multiple factory relationships
