Description

Wessex House is a general adolescent ward for young people between the ages of years of age with mental health issues.

The young people are in hospital as there care needs cannot be met within the community, and whilst they are in hospital, we strive to ensure that all of their needs are met and this includes their educational needs.

The ward recognise education as an integral part of young peoples lives, and want to ensure that continues throughout their inpatient admission through ensuring we have learning mentors available to support them with their learning and ensure that links are maintained with their education providers.


We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and passionate learning mentor to provide support to the already established education service and wider MDT.

The role is to engage young people in educative activities and facilitate their learning.

It involves engaging with families and schools to ensure consistent and joined up learning for the young people during their admission.

You will be expected to keep clear documentation and provide feedback and short reports to formal ward based meetings.


You will be able to draw on well-resourced inpatient facilities to deliver individualised learning packages, and will have to be creative in supporting their present and future educational attainment.

You will be expected to undertake mandatory training, however in addition - there are a wide range of further opportunities available for you to be able to continue your professional development.

The ward team engage with Exeter University to provide bespoke training specifically for staff supporting young people.


Regular direct clinical and management supervision as well as reflective practice, case formulation, peer and safe guarding supervision and debriefs will be available to you.

Your salary and annual leave will be in line with Agenda for Change arrangements


The post-holder will be required to work with students at Key Stage 2/3/4, in the inpatient unit for children and young people with complex mental health needs and their families.

Working under an agreed system of supervision, they will take responsibility for specified work within a framework set by an assigned teacher.

The post holder will complement the professional work of teachers at the Centre by planning and preparing lessons and learning programmes for young people.

They will be working as part of the CAMHS multi-disciplinary team.
