An exciting opportunity has arisen for a professional administrator with strong business support skills to support our Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children's Team.

These children are also looked after by the Local Authority. This post will be based in one of our offices in Fairwater.

The Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children's Team (UASC Team) has a varied and exciting programme of work, delivering a number of programmes, services and projects to support this vulnerable population group alongside a policy and practice development and funding function.


To support successful delivery, we are seeking to grow the team and require a motivated Administration and Finance Officer to contribute to our team's integration of unaccompanied asylum seeking children in the Welsh capital.

We deliver this work regionally, working with our neighbouring authority, the Vale of Glamorgan Council.

This is a very exciting time to join the team as we deliver our commitments to Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children, to provide business support as required.

About the Role The role provides a great opportunity to gain direct experience and insight into unaccompanied asylum seeking children and the wider work with partner agencies, with third sector community organisations and accommodation providers, working as part of an expert and supportive team.

The successful post holder will demonstrate excellent customer services skills, be confident working within a multi-disciplinary team and display sensitivity and competence in the management of confidential personal information.

You will be dealing with daily queries regarding the scheme by managing the team mailbox, assisting with the duty rota and will need to be extremely organised with good writing and time management skills.

You will receive full training to succeed in the role and be given intensive support as a new starter to enable you to develop your skills quickly and make a significant contribution to the work of the team through effective and accurate administration and business support.

Below are some of the tasks you will complete in this role, for which you will receive training and support from the UASC Team, from the associated administrative team and our service partners:

  • Provide administrative, finance and grant management support for Cardiff Children's Services Unaccompanied Asylum Seeking Children's Team while liaising with the Personal Advisor colleagues (who provide support to over 18's) and our colleagues in the Vale.
  • Establish and maintain a coherent file management system using Sharepoint and to work as the site administrator, saving documents in the correct location, assisting staff to locate key information and files and supporting the team to manage their workflow through tools such as Microsoft Planner.
  • Support the coordination of moveon for unaccompanied asylum seeking children through accurate record keeping and the management of client data and file management systems.
  • Liaise with the relevant social workers, personal advisers, accountants and the Home Office to ensure that all financial claims are completed accurately and with comprehensive evidence of spend to meet any future audit requirements.
  • Support general project administration by scheduling meetings, ensuring the effective maintenance of uptodate mailing lists and taking minutes.
